Re: homes with a price range
I've experienced this a couple of times, and usually the seller is trying to do a bidding war type of thing.
We went to one house that they were asking for 259-279, for a brand new redone house. We were amazed we found it for so cheap. We go to see it, love it, decide to bid, and we find out that the owners wanted 369 for it, and the 15 offers on the table were for 359 or higher. We were told to not even bother.
I have no idea why they even listed it so low, other than our agent telling us that it was so that they got more people to come to see it.
But, this is just my experience so far.

Re: homes with a price range
We saw the same thing when we were looking, the broker just uses it as a carrot to lure in people who are in the market. They either want to pump up the price or sign you as a client. I would call and confirm before wasting any time. I think the whole process goes a lot smoother when you have a broker who you can trust. Luckily, my friends DH had his broker license as a side business.

Re: homes with a price range
I think they are trying to get somewhere in the middle.
I've also notice that a lot of houses that list with price ranges, started out with a much higher asking price...had no offers and now are trying to attract a larger group of buyers.
It's a buyers market...take advantage and bid low.
