Homeschooling?

I love the district I live in and I really like the school that my kids attend.

Robbie THRIVES at school. He's competitive, focused, intelligent and he really likes school.

Noah does not do well in a classroom setting. He's a smart kid.. but he gets distracted easily and he needs a more intimate, one on one environment to really learn.

Has anyone here considered homeschooling? And is it something you can do for one child and not the other? Are there any alternatives to home schooling? Noah doesn't have any learning disabilities and he does well in school - but he doesn't enjoy it and he would do so much better in a smaller setting. Any suggestions?

I huge part of school is the socialization aspect. I dislike homeschooling for that reason.

It could be beneficial to him, but New York is one of the hardest states to homeschool in. The school districts hold you very accountable, and if they deem you unfit to educate him properly can force him back into public school. You have to submit your yearly curriculum I think by the third week of August every year and it has to be approved. That's all I really know, but if you want I can contact one of my friends who is a home schooler and see if she has any tips or resources for you.

One of the moms in my moms group homeschools and I believe there is a very active group on meetup.com. You might want to check it out so get some additional information.

What about a small private school? St. Peters by the bay has VERY small classes, 5-10 children in older grades. It's also very expensive though.

I'm sure there are less expensive schools out there though.

Prince of Peace in Sayville is a really nice little school too. Less expensive, but more students per class. It's a different than public school though.

There are so many homeschooling groups that plan social events, so that would not even be an issue for me if I were to homeschool.

I know a couple of people that do it and their kids are thriving.

I believe if homeschooling is done right, the child lacks nothing.

I have 3 friends that homeschool. 2 are really good at it, the 3rd has to step up her game.
All kids are completely social.
Josh is in spanish class with homeschoolers. They are the nicest kids-very bright.

He also has homeschoolers in his art class-also very social...parents are truely committed.

I would have never been on board with it....but as class sizes are growing, budgets being cut, and teachers overwhelmed-I would not dismiss it.
Thankfully I live in a great zone for schools.

One of my friends doesn't-and can't afford private for all 3 of her kids.
The other has a masters in elem ed and isn't happy at all with the productivity of a classroom day.

The third-who has to step up her game-is super duper christian and doesn't want her kids being taught about evolution.

Down here, there is a center. I think it is like 20.00 a month per family. You check in once a week, schedule activities-make sure parents are on track....
