hormone question
I don't know if anyone has the answer to this, and my m/c was back in September but it is still haunting me.....
One of the first signs that my preganncy was NOT going to be successful was that my hormones (HCG) levels were not rising enough. They were not doubling each day as they should have been.
My question is, did the hormones not rise because the pregnancy was not viable? OR Did the pregnancy end b/c my hormones weren't rising, and my hormones couldn't support the pregnancy?
I'm really worried about it being the second.....does anyone know anything about this? Thanks

Re: hormone question
I believe it's the first one.
The hormones rising indicate how the pregnancy is going. There is nothing they can do to increase the hormones, it is more of an indicator. If the hormones aren't rising it means there is something wrong with the pregnancy (that it's not viable).
I'm having my HCG monitored with this pregnancy since 4 weeks. My doctor told me that the numbers indicate how the pregnancy is progressing, but if the numbers dont increase there is nothing they can do about that. Sort of a wait and see.

Re: hormone question
The first one- the way your beta is rising is an indication of how your pregnancy is going. They probably also checked your progesterone. You should ask them if your progesterone was checked during your pg and what it was (as well as what they consider within range). The exception to that would be if it were an etopic or something then the beta still could've risen normally, to a point, but that wouldn't have been an issue with the embryo- it would've been the issue that it was just in the wrong spot. HTH.

Completely agree on all accounts.
I believe the beta rising or not is an indication of how viable the pregnancy is.
They should definitely check your progesterone, I had an issue with mine during my 1st pregnancy and I had to be put on progesterone suppositories to help with the rising of my hormone levels, to keep my pregnancy going (and it worked - I have a 2 1/2 year old now).
An ectopic, the beta rises, but most times it is at an extreme measure - I know for my ectopic, my beta #'s were so high - right away.

Re: hormone question
I always have those 2 questions in the back of my mind too thats why I made an appt to see a RE, I'm always worried about my hormones, my mom had a lot of hormonal problems so I get very nervous. I'm going for an appt on the 23rd and will ask the Dr. the same questions. I'll let you know what the Dr. said.

Re: hormone question
Im sorry for ur loss. Your hcg wont double ever 2-3 days if the pregnancy isnt viable.
