OK...I have the WEIRDEST thing going on right now and I have a question... Very long...but I am scared!

To make a REALLLLYYYYY long story short...here is the situation, as briefly put as possible:

* An old high school friend (male) found me through Classmates.com

* We chatted back and forth for a while...caught up with each other's lives, until....

* Things got REALLLY weird (he had many issues in HS). He started making all kids of sexual propostions and what not towards me. REALLY, REALLY some crazy sh!t...I emailed him and ended all email communication

* He occasionally still emails me here and there. I just delete them

* He tries to friend me on Facebook several times...I blocked him

* I get an email from someone requesting info for party favors...250 of them!

* We go back and forth for a while. He asks me for references?

* I asked him who referred me, and he said the aforementioned person.

Now I'm like

* He asks for more info about me. Weird stuff you wouldn't ask someone who is making your child's birthday party favors. Alot of background check kind of stuff. I'm making party favors, not building him a house, ya know?

* Anyway..."he" emails me today and says he has done research on me and now doesn't want to place the order

Now...that's fine...I did NOT want to do an order for 250. Especially someone referred by that person.

And what the he!! kind of research could he have done?

But...I truly think it was all a bogus email address. I think the "customer" was really that guy from HS.

I really have no idea what he would have done and where this could have gone. Maybe he thought he'd make me so "excited" to get such a large order, then just turn me down...thinking it would hurt me.

Um...no.

Now finally, my question...

Is there a way I can trace an email address to the person it belongs to?

I already looked up this "person" through White Pages and no one exists with that name.

Could maybe the HS nut have created another email address through hotmail?

Help...I am so freaked out!!!!!!

wow---talk about STALKER issues!!

if he used a free email account---there really is no way for you to trace it. he could use fakes names -- change his IP and stuff--it would be extremely difficult to trace.

i guess just be on the look out again if you get a weird customer.

I am sure if you had an order of protection (or whatever they are called), the police could find out. They do it all the time on Law & Order

I've had a somewhat similar email situation. I eventually found out who the person was doing the email (um, next time don't give me the password to your Sirius account dumbazz).

Short of that, you can't find out the person unless you have a court order.

Creepy.... You really can't prove its him but there are many anti-stalker laws in place now(not sure about NY- they are big here in CA due to all the celebrities). I would consider contacting the police if he tries to contact you again.

wow!! how creepy! I don't know anything about tracing e-mails, but I would let the police know if you have a weird feeling.....ya never know if he's "stalked" others and maybe this would add to a case against him. If he has such issues he could be targeting several people with his creepyness! sorry you're going through this!

I have no doubt that was him, and I would be freaked out as well. I am sorry you had to go through this. I have had my share of stalker issues, and people making up fake names and emails to bother me. I know this personality all too well, unfortunately.....

That is so freaky. No advice but just wanted to give you some hugs Hopefully he will leave you alone now.
