Hospital bag
Not sure where you're delivering but if you want to use one, bring a pacifier. My friend delievered a few weeks ago at North Shore and they wouldn't give her one.
In my bag I packed a few pairs of big undies, 2 pairs of loose,, lightweight sweats, and 2 nursing tanks. A hoodie in case it's chilly A pair of flip flops for shower/walking around A pair of socks bc I hate walking barefoot Toiletries Coming home outfit for baby Blanket to drape over car seat Phone charger Camera and charger
That's pretty much it... Hospital provides pads and other things you need for recovery.

Haha, I put some of it together and it seems like it is more than it really is. Just the towels, pillows and boppy take up space.

Re: Hospital bag
For #1 I packed:
Travel size toiletries 2 pairs of black yoga pants (size larger so they were loose and comfy just in case) Tank top Light zip up hoodie Slippers (didn't use bc they gave non slip socks and lots of them) Hair tie Hair brush Hot brush (hair dryer that looks like a brush)- didn't use bc I didn't care. Just threw my hair up in a pony. Powder/blush- didn't use bc I just didn't care lol Towel- didn't use bc even though the one they gave was crappy, at least I didn't have to clean it! Depends silhouettes (instead of undies)- definitely doing again Nursing bra iPad/iPhone charger iPad and iPhone Insurance papers (never was asked for them bc they had the info on file) Outfit for baby A&A swaddle blanket Purse which had my wallet/id and Chapstick
Pretty sure that was it. I had DH bring the boppy and empty diaper bag to fill with diapers and all the "goodies" from the hospital.
This time I'll pack almost the same except no towel, no hot brush, no slippers. I was in the hospital for 5 days (65 hour induction, 48 hour recovery) and didn't feel like I was missing anything.
Oh I also packed flip flops for the shower but I totally forgot to use them lol

Me too. I just basically used my phone, charger, & computer because I was being induced so it was a LONG, boring wait. lol.
I left the next day after giving birth so opted to just shower at home. The only other things I needed with me were a take home outfit for baby (with obviously carseat and blanket, etc included) and a change of clothes for me with basic toiletries like toothbrush, etc for both me & DH. I needed absolutely nothing else that I can remember.

Hospital bag
Don't overpack! I was super conscious not to overpack and I still feel like I did. A few hints. Don't buy anything new to wear in the hospital -- in fact, you'll want to wear stuff in the hospital that you don't really care about. If you deliver vaginally, you'll be bleeding a lot after delivery and even though you'll be wearing pads with the mesh undies, it's likely you'll get blood on your bottoms. Bring things that are dark colored (black, navy, etc.) -- stay away from light colors for staining purposes. I packed my own underwear and didn't even wear them -- I lived in those mesh undies which I found to be so comfortable. Make sure you bring a separate bag for everything you'll get sent home with. I thought people were crazy when they said to bring an entire duffle bag for the free swag, but I'm so happy I did. Our nurses gave us so much stuff that I had my parents bring up another duffle for everything. With that being said, take everything with you that isn't nailed down (diapers, vaseline, maxi pads, chuck pads, ice packs, nasal aspirator bulbs, mesh undies, tucks medicated wipes, spray bottle for vagina, etc). DH thought I was crazy but I took everything. I emptied out the drawers in the bassinet with every shift change and asked the new nurse to refill it.

Re: Hospital bag
Where I delivered they had no mesh undies, so i brought my own ugly granny panties.
I brought DARK maternity sweats, and loose t shirts.
I brought a tight sports bra since I had no plan on BFing
Flip flops
Basic toiletries and make up- I did put some make up on the next day.
Something nobody mentions but I liked having was the Listerine pocket paks- the little strips that dissolve in your mouth and freshen your breath. My mouth felt funky all the time and it was hard to get up to brush my teeth that first night. Or even those little Colgate Wisp waterless toothbrush things.
Gum
DH did not stay so nothing for him
Coming home outfit for DD (I wore my sweats and a T shirt home)
Phone charger
That's about it

Re: Hospital bag
Great stuff here!
I should add that, for me, having an I-Home player for my I-Phone so I could charge it on that while playing nice music was key.
I didn't want that dang TV on all the time - especially because the baby was in the room. I wanted to have some nice music playing. So, it was just a little thing that I brought which made me very content... and baby, too.
And I think someone here mentioned the Boppy. I didn't even breastfeed. It wasn't even that for me -- the Boppy was great because I could sit with my son on the bed and prop him up in/on it or use it to support my arms while I held him. It was nicer than sticking him in that plastic bassinet on wheels.
