Hospital Tour/Doctor Picking
It appears that I should pick a doctor also based on the hospital they are affiliated with. Is that correct?
What is the order I should do all this in? So I look at hospitals (tours?) first to see what doctors are affiliated? Or do I pick a doctor just to go to one then later possibly change?
I'm sooo lost. I feel soo in the dark!! Wedding Planning was a lot easier!!

Re: Hospital Tour/Doctor Picking
I picked a Dr. based on what hospital they were affiliated but, didn't take a tour until I was pregnant.
There was someone on my tour though that was looking to switch Drs and was touring the hospital first though.

Re: Hospital Tour/Doctor Picking
I didn't do a tour (that's much later imo) but I went online and compared statistics like infant mortality rate, c-sec rate, NICU level.
I personally went w/ North Shore Manhasset b/c it has the most advanced technology in the NICU (and the highest level- although I don't believe that;s exclusive- there are a few with the same). The downfall is that it is a lot of $$$ if u want a private room and some other places have that as standard- so that's def a point to consider if ur interested in that.
As for Dr. I asked around but also went to ratemds.com bc you can get a lot of different feedback albeit from strangers- but who cares- they're still ob patients.
So, yes, I picked a hosp, then a Dr. based on being affiliated w/ that hosp and other Dr. criteria.
Some people "interview" a few obs but I did not. We said that if we had some sort of issue with him we would go elsewhere to look- but all was great and that was that. (FYI I see Dr. David Rothbaum in Great Neck).

Re: Hospital Tour/Doctor Picking
I based my decision on a recommendations of friends in the area I live in now and where I wanted to deliver.

I did this...got the recommendation through a friend of mine. I switched from my regular ob/gyn after I saw something about her online.

Re: Hospital Tour/Doctor Picking
I chose the hospital that I want to deliver at first (Winthrop), and then I found a midwife that delivers there through my insurance. I started the process when I first started TTC.

Re: Hospital Tour/Doctor Picking
I was reccomended by my friend, and my OB just happened to only deliver at the one hospital I wanted...so it all sorta worked out. I think there's a certain distance from the office to the hospital that make the doc choose that hospital. So if you have a specific one in mind, look for doctors in that area only. And, make phone calls before making that appointment.
