Hospitals: Visiting Hours, Delivery Info.

Can we all list what we know, so others can get some basic info? This is stressing me!!

- Hospital name
- Visiting hours
- Dad allowed to stay overnight?
- Baby kept in room at all times with mom?

Feel free to add more items that I haven't thought of. I'm delivering at St. Charles and I've heard that they're so strict, the dad can't stay over, they like to keep the baby in the nursery, etc (again, this could all just be rumors, but it's what I've heard).

Thanks!

Re: Hospitals: Visiting Hours, Delivery Info.

I'll answer what I can.

Hospital name: Southside Hospital

- Visiting hours...not sure of exact times, but I hear they are fairly flexible

- Dad allowed to stay overnight? Dad allowed to stay until 10pm, although I hear they are more lenient if you have a private room

- Baby kept in room at all times with mom?
Baby will be given to you about 4 hours after birth and I believe can then stay in your room, except they go back to the nursery to sleep at night (although you can request them for feedings). Or you & partner are given a "key" to the nursery & you can get baby whenever you wish.

You are assigned a certain nurse who stays with you for her 12 hours & cares for you & baby.

St. Catherine of Siena in Smithtown

Visiting hours:
Dads: 10am - 10pm
Siblings & Grandparents: 12-8
General: 12-2 and 5-8 (I think)
It is up to the mom if the baby is in the room for general visiting hours

Dads cannot stay overnight once the baby is born b/c they are shared rooms

It is up to the mom if the baby stays in the room or not...if you dont want the baby in the room overnight, they will still bring them to you for feedings if you want. They pretty much let you decide what you want to do and how you want to do it.

That's true! The girl I work with, her sister in law delivered there not too long ago and they lock the babies in the nursery during visiting hours (which I believe are 1.5 hours).

I'm delivering at Stonybrook
-Visiting hours from 2am-8:30 (2pm I mean!)
-Dad and one other green bracelet holder can visit from 10am-8:30
-Dad can stay overnight
-Siblings only, no children that aren't siblings are allowed
-Baby can room in, but arrangements need to be made in advance and I believe this is only if you are delivering with the midwives. It's called the "baby bonus" program.

I don't get St. Charles! Why lock the babies in there? Shouldn't I be the one to use my judgement in which of my family members I want to see & hold the baby? Yes, they're there to congratulate you, but they want to see the baby!! UGH!!!

I want to switch to Stony Brook for a few other reasons, and this has added to it. Got to investigate this!! THANKS!

Pretty much the same here in CT-Midstate Medical Center

Except grandparents and siblings have no set visiting hours and are welcome anytime.

They also have huge private rooms you labor, deliver and recover in and DH even gets a pull out couch to sleep on complete with sheets and a pillow.

Hospital : UConn Health Center -John Dempsey Hospital

Visiting Hours : i believe its from 9am - 10pm. DH can stayover night. They have 3 family rooms (need to reserve) with pull out couch that family members can also stay overnight. They provide sheets, pillows, towels and even toiletries.

You have a choice if you want the baby with you all the time.

- Hospital name - Stonybrook

- Visiting hours - 2:00-8:30 for general visitors although they do allow family to come and go if you want.

- Dad allowed to stay overnight? Yes, room are private but some are very small and there really isn't any room for another to sleep. The nurses won't allow DH to share your bed.

- Baby kept in room at all times with mom? Yes, they will allow you to keep the baby with you at all times. They will also bring you the baby on demand or for just feedings if you would like to sleep at night. The babies do have to be in the nursery for morning rounds though.

My sister delivered 3 babies at St. Charles and her DH stayed with her when she didn't have a roommate. She was also allowed to keep the babies in the room.

Visiting hours: 9am-10pm for dads (if you have a private room he can stay later but not over night)
Grandparents and sibilings to the baby are 2-4pm (the baby is out)
general visiting is 6:30-8pm: the baby is in the nursey and the baby is not taken out until every vistor for every patient is off that floor not including the dad's. They are very strict about this even if your baby is screaming.
Every afternoon they gave me a slip and I choose when I wanted to feed the baby durning the night. If I was breastfeeding the hours are 12am, 3am 6am. It the baby was bottle fed then it is 1am and 5am. You pick what you want and if you dont pick any they feed the baby for you. They bring the baby in to you at 9am. You are also aloud to go to the nursey any time you please to see the baby when it is in their.

To the OP, I was very upset about the visiting hours aswell when I heard that the baby was in the nursey for the 1.5 for the general visiting and looking back I was so happy that he was in their. I had alot of people come see me and I couldnt imagine their hands all over him even if they washed them. I was only in the hospital for 2 days and everyone was their when I came home. I think it can be overwhelming for the baby aswell.

I am a bit confused with the breastfeeding schedule. It's every 3 hours? The classes I took and book say 2 hours not 3 hours.
