Re: Hot yoga--Massapequa

I really enjoyed myself and am glad I went. I think I had more trouble with most of the poses and not the intensity of the heat!Chat Icon

Can anyone recommend a basic, basic yoga class for beginners? I will go anywhere within the Massapequa-Babylon areas.

I am looking for nighttime or early weekend-day classes. Chat Icon

P.S. The hot yoga has a special that you can get I believe 10 free classes with the $20.00 fee you pay. I think you have like a week or 10 days to use them.

I loved hot yoga!!! I would have kept up with it, but I find that the 90 minute class is alot for me w/ all the other stuff I do at my gym.

I know you said you wanted to stay in the Massapequa/Babylon area. Are you willing to try Wantagh. There is a place called the Little Yoga House in Wantagh and the teacher is supposed to be great. She teaches out of her house and has all types of classes!! I know a few people personally who go there and they love it.

I know Big Al's Family Fitness in Amityville has Hot Box Yoga Class and a regular Yoga class. Wednesday nights is Hot Box and Saturday Mornings is regular. Not sure if you have to be a member to join. I take pilates there and LOVE IT.

Re: Hot yoga--Massapequa

I just did my 5th class today---that's 5 classes in a week! If you've never tried Hot Yoga or Bikram Yoga, you should give it a shot. I already feel like my body is changing!!

Bumping this back up. I've gone a lot already and really enjoy it.

I also love the comfortable, welcoming atmosphere and the person who teaches all the classes I have gone to so far doesn't make you feel like you have to force yourself to do something if you can't that day.

I think I want to try this too. There is a place in locust valley by me, I am just nervous because I have only done yoga one other time.

You should definitely check it out! Maybe they also have the same deal like the one by me----with the free unlimited classes for 10 days.

If you don't do yoga usually, do you think it would be too intense? I'd be afraid to pass out or puke lol.

It's intense----BUT-----with that said, they also ask you to sit out and watch if you feel that way.

As a new student, your biggest goal is to stay in the room for the 90 minutes.

At any given time, you look around the room and there are several people sitting out. It's a very comforting, welcoming environment.

I can already see changes in my body and I look forward to going now as much as possible. Not like the gym.Chat Icon

If things aren't crazy from the weather tommorrow morning, I am going to try to make the 7:30AM class.

Re: Hot yoga--Massapequa

P.S. It gets less intense I think the more you go. I went yesterday and today, and today was a much more easier day on my body then yesterday (I hadn't been since Tuesday).

Re: Hot yoga--Massapequa

this is close to me. I would be interested in it. But I have never done yoga. Would that be a problem? Can you lose weight with it? or is it more for relaxing?

Not having done yoga isn't the worst thing but it might take you a little while to get the poses. They tell you repeatedly that you just try your best; Trying to stay in the room is the biggest thing. Also you should know that it is a quiet, meditative kind of yoga. There's not supposed to be talking in the room---outside of the yoga instructor.

Definitely you can lose weight; you will sweat like never before. It's so gross but I love it.
