House Searching....came across something we don't know the answer to.
My DH and I went house hunting again this weekend. We came across a colonial that is completely empty (owner's moved out and need to sell). The house has NO carpet and it's all wooden floors.
However, upon deep inspection, the wood floors look to be original to the home, and not redone.
How much would it cost to get new wooden floors in a house (up and down except kitchen and EIK that are ceramic tile) if we did it before we moved in?
Any help is appreciated!

You could probably have the floors that are there sanded and restained. this is not that expensive...... If you have to replace the floors you are looking at a lot of money.

Betsy-are the floors in very bad shape?? They can always fix any boards individually and sand and restain, it could look beautiful...and save you a lot of money! HTH

We looked into this. It could be upwards of $10,000 for real wood floors. I agree that you should strip the floors and restain them.

yea, why would you need to replace them all? You could sand and stain and put on a glaze which wouldn't be too expensive and doesn't take too too long.

original hardwood floors in a house is a GREAT thing! you can easily have them sanded and stained for a fraction of replacing them.

It depends on how many square feet you're talking about. We wanted to do our first floor and it would've probably cost about $3k-$4k. But our contractor could give us a break on the floors if we got it through him. Not sure how much the labor would've cost us just for ripping out the old floors.
We decided to wait for a bit though, we just sanded and stained the floors (also original) instead.

it really depends how many times they have been sanded and stained already. After a while you can't sand them anymore. Best to get a professional opinion about the floors.
