According to their website, it's 1 point per $3 spent if you hit the DEBIT button, and 1 point per $2 spent if you hit the CREDIT button.

So either way if you are using your debit card, ALWAYS select credit. A lot of times if the register knows it is a debit card, it will prompt for a pin. If I use my debit card I always hit CANCEL then select CREDIT. Then I sign.

I have citi gold- (b/c I do my business banking there as well)

so I get extra points for that as well

I also use the card as credit- I don't like to enter my pin

but honestly- rewards are not the reason I do or do not do anything- they are a nice bonus- but I really don't care at the end of the day- maybe I should- but I just don't

I would just rather not use credit cards anymore

I am another person who uses CCs for everything, and pays it off. I love the cash back, and the protection that I can't get with any other payment method. Plus, most car rental places want a CC to reserve the car. Some, but not all, will take a debit card.

People that use debit cards for hotel and car rentals need to be careful, often the firm will take a $xxx deposit out against the debit car in case of damages. They sometimes don't return it for days after the rental.

My cousin learned this the hard way.

I still use credit cards for things like that

I think most of us that don't use them- still have them

but you can still pay with a debit card and use a credit card for the deposit- or the hold

Am I the only person who yearns for a return of the days when a credit card's terms were pretty much never altered unless you defaulted?

I recall the early 90's.... sure, most cards had annual fees, but they wouldn't be sticking you with tons of odd charges, and changing terms for no reason.

The big difference back then was they wouldn't give credit cards to anything with a pulse. Also, credit limits were much lower... much more in tune with a person's income. those are the real problems. I do not think retracting credit from people with bad track records will really hurt the economy. I think our economy was hurt by extending all of this credit to that group of people in the first place. Sure it will hurt for a bit while we re-establish equilibrium. Frankly, those people should not have the opportunity to become 30k in debt.

I think this bill, in effect, will force the credit card companies to lend more prudently.

EXACTLY. Credit cards have needed to be reformed (?) for awhile now. Then the economy tanked and they took advantage of ALL of their customers, that's when the gvt. finally took notice. They brought this on themselves, and since there's not sign they'll fix themselves, I firmly support this bill.

Exactly. In today's society, you need to HAVE a CC. You don't necessarily need to USE one by putting actual charges on it.
