House Smell Help...long lasting smell relief???
My boyfriend has 2 Very Large dogs in a small home. The dogs spend a lot of time in the yard so they smell. We get them washed weekly but what can I do about them smelling up the house?
I can Lysol but that doesnt last for long...any suggestions for long lasting smell relief?

Re: House Smell Help...long lasting smell relief???
When we moved, the new house had a persistent odor - likely caused by carpeting that we just aren't in a position to replace just yet. I did a few things: - I burned wax tarts religiously - and still do (I have 3 large dogs who don't always smell like flowers) - I put cinnamon and cloves in pouches around the house in hidden locations - The plug-in air fresheners work great! I have them in every room of the house, and they do a lot to combat the dogs.
ETA - And I bought a full-size carpet steamer. I steam the carpets on a monthly basis. Probably isn't good for the carpets - but what a difference it makes!

Re: House Smell Help...long lasting smell relief???
i only have one dog, and he has his own odor, too- LOL my sister actually learned a trick in college from the guy who lived next door to her... after they would have a party where beer or whatever got spilled on teh carpets , they would sprinkle baking soda on the carpets, leave it there for about 10-15 minutes, and then vacumm it up.... baking soda naturally absorbs odors, so it works pretty well! since its also edible, you can also rub it on the dogs in between baths ( it says that right on the container of baking soda) just rub it into the fur, and it seems to help as well... good luck!!

simmering some cinnamon or orange peels on the stove helps too - And try to open the windows whenever possible to let the fresh air in .........The baking soda works really well too - it's not that perfumy carpet stuff that makes you gag, it just takes the odor away ......... -

Re: House Smell Help...long lasting smell relief???
I have 2 little Yorkies and they are not scented nicely all the time. I've used the baking soda method and it really does work.
I have a Little Green Spot Bot by Bissel that I really love, it requires you to get on your hands and knees and that sucks!
The only plug in form that has ever worked for me is the Febreze noticeables. They are pricey but they are the only ones I've ever really noticed.

The baking soda is a great idea.
I'm not too much of a fan of covering up odor with a lot of scents...I'd definitely prefer to get rid of it the best I could.
In addition to the baking soda, maybe invest in a couple of air purifiers. They seem to help.
Good luck!

Re: House Smell Help...long lasting smell relief???
Thanks for these tips! I will definately try them out. The old owners of our house owned a dog and the laundry room and family room are stinky! I also just got a carpet steamer, so hopefully that will help too.
