house update - for those who know my story (edited with pics)

Well no answer on the $5k from closing, but from what I gather we will find out by the end of next month when the taxes are paid and they see a surplus in escrow that was the best answer I had received.

Last night we had taken out a doorway/entry wall and had my brother in law who is in construction come over and look at the house for the first time. WOW basically every room needs a facelift, there is no skim coat or paint only jobs all new sheetrock but the good thing is our sheetrock is so thin we are laminating new sheet rock on top of it to cover over it and making it more of the standard size now. We are doing our bedroom first, fixing the wall closet (making the entire back wall a closet for "his and her's" since it was choppy. Putting up crown molding, floor molding, new door, new covers on the baseboard, etc. I start demo on thursday on the trim and closet area. Then getting a rug in there because the wood floors are beyond repair. UGH my back. I just have to find the money to pay my brother in law somehow.

I am then pulling the faux brick backsplash off the kitchen walls, removing the old 60's stove and cleaning and adding a fresh coat of paint for the kitchen because it needs a complete renn which will not happen for a few years.

After that our plan is doing the laundry room & the front bedroom (same thing as the bedroom as we are doing now) this way the two main bedrooms are done.

Then moving on to the dining room/living room because we discovered in order to sheet rock we have to decide on what to do with our MASSIVE fireplace. My brother in law said its way to big and it need to get cut down significantly and completely refaced. So i have a chimney guy going to come in and take a look at it to see if we can use it for now until we change it around probably around xmas. Then we have to do the doorway soon to get into the finished garage area which we now discover shouldn't be our master since its small instead it will be "hang out room" then if we have a kid a nursery playroom that has it's own bathroom and loft area.

I will post pics when we have a complete before and after on stuff. It so much work and I wish we had money because we could have things done but this whole missing funds thing is pissing me off. but loving our house!

Wow... that's a lot of work to do, but incredibly rewarding when it's all going to be done!
It's so easy to get caught up in all that needs to be done when you buy a house - just try to stay realistic and make yourself a long list of goals. We didn't need that much done to our house, but it still took us a long time to get it to the point where we felt like it was done (still isn't done actually, but done enough for now..)

Definitely would love to see pics of the before and afters, and keep us posted!

I don't know if it's the picture of the fireplace or not, but it doesn't look that massive. i hope you can use it!
i LOVE LOVE LOVE the old stove. i'd try selling that if it works. good luck getting a new one of that size...

i want to see it with no panelling, it must be soo much brighter now.

did they leave that furniture or is that yours?

I love that there's a wraparound counter and such a large stove, and is that a double sink? Very nice! It's going to be great when it's done.

Good luck with everything that needs to be done. I can't wait to see progress pics!

I couldn't see the pics when I'm at work. You have a lot of work ahead of you, but it's going to be all worth it in the end. Are you going to paint the cabinets in the kitchen white?
