Hold old was your dog when it became housebroken and how long did you have them? What method did you use?

Re: Housebreaking

Brodie was 3 months when we got him and it took him about 2 weeks to get fully housebroken.

We used Wee Wee Pads and he was not crated. Worked really well!

Re: Housebreaking

lukin my minpin was the hardest. im not sure if it was cuz he was a oy or most likely just cuz he was my first dog annd i wasnt as knowledgable as i am now.

i tried paper training him as well as g=outside--- but we didnt havea fence at that house so it was hard to train him outside. plus, it started to snow shortly after i got him which confused him.

he wasnt fully trained til he was 8 moths---after we moved to the city.

tink, my chihuahua, was easy. i got her at 8 weeks old. i immediatly crated her the first few days and then she'd cry when she'd have to go potty. if it was daytime i'd take her outside if it was night id take her to the wee wee pad.

after the first few days i stopped crating her. she was wee-wee pad and outside trained fully in a week or so.

my last dog was trained when i got her.

Re: Housebreaking

Rudy is very good with it. They say never yell at them if you dont catch them in the act and we never did. The first night he used the paper and that was it.

If he has an accident we use water and vinegar they tell you that eliminates the smell so they wont go in the spot.

We got Reesie when she was 7 weeks old. She only had 3 accidents in the house, the last one was prob. when she was 10 weeks old Chat Icon

Edited to see we just always brought her outside to go to the bathroom, no wee wee pads. She is in her crate when we cant watch her. Every accident we caught her in the act and rushed her outside and yelled "NO". Then cleaned up the accident spot w/ water & vinegar to get rid of the scent.

Re: Housebreaking

we got Gus when he was 7 weeks old, he only had one accident in the house, and it was actually my fault, I got stuck in traffic when he was 10 weeks old, and I was an hour late, and he peed in his cage, he was so ashamed, I felt like the worst mommy in the world.

Re: Housebreaking

Lets see Abigail we got her at 6 weeks and I have to say it took her about till 4 months until she was fully housebroken. After about 2 months of her going around the paper/weewee pads we had to crate her. After that she got it.

Now Stoli, my boxer took a year! I think its harder for Males to finally get it! He just turned 2 last month and had an accident around the holidays he went to the backdoor and peed, without letting us know. My Abigail NEVER had an accident. She is just a smarter dog too, she is an American Bulldog.

It takes a while and very hard to not want to yell at them but you cant, you can just say stern NO, OUTSIDE and bring them out right away, NEVER put their nose though into their mistake. Bring them over, point while scolding and bring them out. Good Luck, and remember to be patient!Chat Icon
