I hold my rings on top of pot of steaming water. I use a fork to hold it, not my hand/fingers.

I hold my rings in the steam from the cappucino maker (rings in a bowl)

I then windex. A family friend who is a jeweler told me this and said that jewelry cleaners were a waste of money.

i have pave set diamonds in both bands, and i use peroxide to clean mine. i put a little peroxide in a bowl, then stick the rings in there for a few minutes... the bubbles from the peroxide draw out all the dirt from in between the little diamonds.... works great, and i haven't really heard/read anything about it being bad for them Chat Icon

Re: household items to clean wedding rings

I found out by mistake that Scrubbing Bubbles, the aerosol kind, not the abrasive kind, works really well. Also, once in a while I hit my ring with the canned air that I have for cleaning my keyboard. If my rings get any soap residue or residue from hand lotion, it comes out from the forced air. Don't do it if you have any doubts about how secure the stones are set, though.

Exactly what I do! Our jeweler told us to do this as it is similar to their steam machine. Rings come out sparkling!

Re: household items to clean wedding rings

I once read somewhere to do a small glass of hot water, one drop of dishwashing liquid and a teaspoon of ammonia.
Soak it in that for a while, then scrub with a toothbrush and rinse.

Works great!

I usually use a little bit of ammonia and the rest water in a little dixie cup. I leave it for a few minutes and they are good to go!

you should word this better so rings dont end up in the microwave!!! Chat Icon

heat the liquid for a minute or so, take it out of the microwave and let soak as long as you want. they scrub with a toothbrush.

one of moms friends actually put her rings in a POT OF BOILING WATER and windex on the stove and all the metal turned black!!!!!!

I use Windex or dish soap with a soft toothbrush.

ETA -- I should clarify that my diamond wedding band and engagement ring are both platinum... but my mom uses the same stuff for her yellow gold diamond jewelry, which still looks brand new 4)+ years later Chat Icon
