How accurate is gender at 16w?

I went to Impact today bc I couldn't wait to find out the gender - I am a little over 16w. The baby was squirming around a lot and it was hard to get a perfect shot, but he said he "does not see a penis and sees a vagina" - he said those words so many times it was a little uncomfortable, lol. But of course he won't guarantee it - that was all he would say.

So I am not 100% confident that it is a girl. Is 16w too early to be accurate? I saw what he pointed out as the girl parts, but I have a hard time deciphering things on the sonograms.

Thanks!

It's still just a tiny bit early because it's possible for a boy's parts not to be fully formed quiet yet, although they say most form between 13 & 14 weeks. Does your package let you go back in another 2 or 3 weeks? By then you should definitely be able to have a 100% answer.

I'd be nervous with a squirmer too... we didn't find out the gender until 19 w 4 d. But I've definitely heard of people finding out way sooner!

Do you want to post some of the pics so some of the experienced ladies can try to interpret for you?

Thanks for the response. They didn't give us any pictures - they said they were no good. They charged us less for the visit because of it. I go to the dr for what it supposed to be my 16w appointment a week from today (dr is on vacation this week), so I will ask them to look then.

16 weeks is definitely OK for a gender determination! We found out BOY @ 15wk4d with my son, it was clear as day. I think it's safe to say you're having a little girl! Congrats!!!

I was told boy at 12 week ultrascan, which was again the determination at 16 weeks. Next week is my Level II.....and I'm just waiting for that final confirmation before I register.

I think it's too early still. My doctor wouldn't even LOOK until my Level II at 20 weeks just to be sure. I mean, yes, there's a very good chance that it IS a girl, but I wouldnt go painting the room pink just yet. Wait until your next sono. It will be a lot more accurate then.

Re: How accurate is gender at 16w?

We found out our DC is a girl at our level II. I went to impact yesterday and I am 23 weeks and it wasn't until the last few minutes that we were SURE it is ia girl. He kept saying the same thing...there is no penis. i'm not too keen on that method of absense of penis indicates girl bc. But then we got a CLEAR shot in 3d of her girl parts. Your DC may very well be a girl but at your level II it should be more accurate. Good Luck!!
