Re: How are Massapequa schools/high school?
Massapequa Schools are one of the best in Nassau County. Look for District #23 in Massapequa.
Amityville is SD#6, so you want to avoid those areas. Usually that's East Massapequa - anything east of Carmen's Road.
Incidentally, Wantagh is also SD#23, just so you are aware.

What do you mean? Why was that a problem regarding the school?

#23 is highly rated. The town borders on Amityville and EAST Mass. residents attend Amity schools...but that's not a huge section of town.

How can they be the same district? They have separate High schools, etc

Mass. has 4 different districts of SDs! It's very confusing. North can be Farmingdale or Plainedge, south is mostly Mass. SD along with Mass Park, and East Mass (officially called that) goes to Amityville.
You usually can tell the difference when looking at home prices.

If you are looking in the Massapequa area, Wantagh (2 towns over) is also a good district. Ironically - it is the same SD number as Massapequa. That is all I'm saying. I didn't mean to confuse you.

Amityville is not a desirable district. She's just warning you to stay away from that district, which is #6.
When you do a seacrh on MLSLI, just specify Massapequa Schools and you won't have to worry about any of that.

Exactly - and you can tell by the taxes. We found that Farmingdale and Plainedge SD houses had much higher taxes then Massapequa because Massapequa has the Mall to help defray the taxes.

Can I find any articles on this? I am disappointed to see it was not listed on Newsweek's best high schools.

Re: How are Massapequa schools/high school?
Massapequa is a great school district. What people are saying about the Amityville thing is just that Amityville SD is not good, but the Amityville that borders Massapequa is actually gorgeous, and perhaps the safest area around. Hardly anyone from South Amityville sends their kids to public school, though. I live in Amityville and totally love it. The fact that Massapequa borders Amityville should not be a deterrent for you. If it wasn't for the school district issue, you may eve like Amityville better!

Ok thanks. I was missing the last page of my print out.
I wish it was higher I cant deny...but then again, its not always about test scores and such. So I am happy its at least on there.

i agree my mother lives in the same area and it's way nicer than massapequa and I actually like the people that live there better as well (coming from someone that is also a product of the Massapequa SD.)

Re: How are Massapequa schools/high school?
We live in Massapequa now, and our school district is Plainedge, #18 i think
From what all the neighbors say, and the things ive read online, it seems to be a very good school district

Re: How are Massapequa schools/high school?
I was born and raised in Massapequa and had a fabulous education. I now teach in the district, too, and I can't say that my opinion has changed much over the years... you get a solid education.....and yes 851 was disappointing to me, too, but it isn't all about test scores and if you look at alum ratings, plenty of us have gone on to Ivy league schools and done quite well.... DH and I are moving back there when we buy our home...

I was just going to say that I do not remember the number that it scored, but it was very high. We are looking in that area and I heard great things from people about the SD, but I did some research and the schools didn't rate so high which i was surprised to see.
