Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
I took a class with the superintendent of schools there and they seemed to be good..I hear mixed reviews about the HS, but that's where the class was and it seemed nice, too..overall, I think a solid district that spends a fair amount of money on their students (it was a school finance class..haha)

Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
excellent schools. excellent district. on par with lynbrook, and RVC.
as an employer, that can be another story. but for the children, they offer great and varied programs and have a solid reputation

Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
We are in Oceanside and recently went to the kindergarten orientation, and were very pleased with what we heard. I have heard nothing but good things from my friends and neighbors whose older kids are in the schools.

Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
One of the weird things I have heard about the district from a colleague who lives there is that they have one central kindergarten center for the whole district and then they break out for elementary and middle then come back together for h.s. He really wasn't wild about the idea and it sounds strange to me too.

Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
I lived in Oceanside, went to catholic school from 1-12 grades but not becuase the public schools were not good, just because my parents watned to have me go to catholic school. I know tons of O'side alumni and they said the school system is very good. The only caveat I had (if we lived there) is that the middle school is in a very out of the way area of Oceanside and the HS is more near the border of Baldwin Harbor area...but I guess depending on where you live it's not that big of a deal. And of course there are school buses. Otherwise good schools!

Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
I think its considered good. My sister student taught there and said she had a good experience. I used to work in Oceanside as a teenager and knew many people from there. They were all super nice

In our previous district, they had two kindergarten centers. I loved it. No "big" kids on the bus, in the cafeteria, on recess, etc. It worked out great!

Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
They are good schools, smart kids. My only complaint/caveat is that we offer SAT classes there for my job and they are the worst school as far as behaviorial issues. The kids have a sense of entitlement and they behave horribly in the classroom, throwing things across the room, talking during class, following the teachers out to their cars and harassing them. When we try to discipline, the parents refuse to accept our feedback, insisting that their child must be innocent. This happens at every school, but it is consistently a problem at Oceanside.

Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
those who are familar....
where do your kids go to school if you live in Island Park?
Oceanside or LB?
I am looking in lido, long beach, Island Park and Oceanside
schools are not high on my list now (water, pool, updated house and then schools)
but I don't want to be paying those taxes and have to pay for private school

Re: How are Oceanside Schools?
If you live in Island Park, your kids will go to IP Middle School and then have a choice between West Hempstead High School or Long Beach High School starting next year. Previously IP kids were bussed to WHHS and now they have choice.
