I know it's a stupid question and i'm sure they should never be left in but I seriously can't get it out.

Rylan got 2 splinters yesterday...one on his big toe and one on his knee/shin. I was able to get the one on his toe. It wasn't easy...we had to hold him down kicking and screaming. The other one is so close to the top of his skin...it actually looks like it's on the skin but it's not. I cannot for the life of me get it. I can try again later when Danny gets home but it's going to be a nightmare again.

**I got it out. Glad I did though beause a pin dot of liquid came out too.

It could get infected if you leave it... If you can't get it out, I'd bring him to the doctor and have them do it.

We took Jacob to the ped to have a couple taken out. The dr sprayed something really cold on his knee and took it out....but he still screamed because he doesn't like being held down. You can also to get it in the bath with a washcloth if it is close to the surface.

I'l try again. If he naps today i'll try it then...if not after his bath.

Thanks guys. I know it shouldn't be left in but I was thinking since it's basically on the surface it would be as bad. I know...stupid.

Did you try a band aid or tape to try to pull it out?

Put the sticky part on the splinter and let him pull it off.

Worked for us. Logan thought it was fun to put the bandaids on and off over and over.

But maybe I just have a weird kid. Chat Icon

Re: How bad is it to leave a splinter in?

I've had an infected splinter. I actually started getting a blood poisoining line going up my leg from it. Not good.

Is the splinter touching the surface, or is there a hole where it went in? If it is, you can try tape or a band aid like a pp said. I've also heard that if you put glue on the spot, let it dry, then peel the glue off (which shouldn't hurt) the splinter will come right out. This is bc the glue went in the little hole, attached to the wood, and it will come out.Chat Icon
