How can I dress up a plain black dress?
Originally for the wedding we're going to this weekend I was planning on getting the green Arabelle dress from JCrew, but with us closing on our house this week money is too tight for me to spend $250 on a new dress. So, I'm going to wear a black dress I already own. I cant find a pic of it online, but its just a basic slim-fitting v-neck black dress that comes to about mid-thigh. It's v-neck in the front and back. I think I originally got it from Express.
I recently wore it to a different wedding and just wore black heels with it...nothign special.
What can I wear with it to change it up a bit so it doesnt seem like the same boring black dress? I was thinking a pop of color in the shoes, maybe a nice wrap?? I just dont know what color to go with.

fun shoes!! maybe strappy..
leopard pink turquoise yellow red green orange cobalt blue
Anything goes with black!
You could do a fun colorful necklace, maybe a long one with a bunch of strands? You can also do big earrings with a cuff bracelet.

I'd do some kind of necklace with long, multiple strands. Maybe something like this?
And then funky heels depending on what kind of jewelry you do.
ETA: But personally, I like a little Audrey Hepburn with my LBD- pearls, a high updo, etc.

I'm thinking of doing deep red heels with a matching clutch.
What color (if any) wrap would you do with this? Or what type of cover-up?

I wore something similar to my nieces christening. The front was only a V and it was an empire waist. I added a black patent leather belt and it looked really good.
You could do something like that or those ribbon belts that have the rhinestone broaches on them to dress it up a bit.

Can I do Navy blue? Like these shoes? Or would the color look odd against black dress?

I'm not really a fan of black and blue together, even navy. JMO!

Thanks - this is what I was thinking too.
Okay, I'll either go with a burgundy or gold...
I ran out on my lunch break to the mall but I couldnt find any shoes in either color that seemed to work they're all too high. I need nothing more than 3" heels.
