How can i locate my cesspools underground (company you might rec) or otherwise? (other cesspool ?s)
Can anyone help direct me to a company or any other info on how i can locate my cesspools underground?
Should the bldg dept of my town have this info as well?
Does anyone know typically if they are front of a house, where they would be?

when we moved into our house, we had no idea where the cesspool was. We called a cesspool company to come and pump it and told them we did not know where it was. They came and poked around with a long metal stick. i was told if they couldn't find it, they would have to flush a device down the toilet then use a metal detector type of thing to find out where it ended up.
we didnt need that becasue they did find the cover to the cesspool

Did you get a survey when you bought your house? That would have it on there or check with the Town Hall.
As the other poster said, we had to do the same thing and hire a Company to come in and poke around.

We did get a new survey but I dont believe that is on there at all.

#1 ask your neighbors! usually a neighboorhood was built at the same time and they *usually* do the same thing
if you have different model homes, ask the ones that have the same as you
This was the #1 thing we asked the sellers when we purchased the house
if that doesn't work, I don't believe the town has records of this. we had requested the plans from the town for a co and ours was not listed
if you have a company come out to locate them, they will probably charge you
if you have a basement you can see which way the big pipe goes. (front vs back of house) but that won't give you an indication where it actually is, just front yeard vs back

Yep, follow the discharge pipe from your lowest point and see where it exits the house. Ours comes out through the garage in the front and our pools are in our front lawn.
A cesspool company should be able to locate it easily.

Suffolk County Health Department may have them too. They are the ones who approve and inspect it... They may have an approved survey on file -- depending on the age...

We just had ours serviced. One company came to look for it and they couldn't find it, but DID find a sprinkler lines with their metal pole and broke it!
2nd company came and after looking for it for a long time they were able to locate it. We did end up asking our neighbors where theirs were (turns out they had all moved theirs and were no help to us!)

i'm in westchester and have septic - which I think is a similar concept. We recently had a problem with it and were told the Board of Health and/or the town buildings dept would have it.
In my case the buildings dept had a copy of the septic plans, but they told me thats rare its usually the board of health.
