How can it be legal to charge for your own records?
I want my Dr to send my records to a new Dr and they want to charge me 75 cents a page... how can I be charged for my own health records??

I had xRays at Wintrhop that were going to be like $45 to pick up or something insane like that...Never got them

It's part of the HIPPA law, everyone who requests records pays for them.

It's part of the HIPPA law, everyone who requests records pays for them.
It's governed by a combo of state laws and HIPAA and the doctors do not have to charge, they just do it because they can.

What if another doctor was to request them? Would they charge them? I know when I worked at an eye MDs office we always requested records. Maybe you can have the MD do that and they won't charge.

the dr would forward the records to the requesting office...that is a different story...
