How did you find out?
How did you find out that TTC was going to be, at the very least, an extreme challenge?
We weren't even officially "trying". I went off BCP, and purchased the CBEFM, just so I could "get to know my cycles" after 8 years on BCP. It was by using the CBEFM that I found out I hadn't O'd in the past 5 months. I went to my OB/GYN, and was diagnosed with PCOS.
Just wondering how the rest of you found out.

Re: How did you find out?
Well after about 10 months of "not preventing" and 7 months of really trying I had my annual exam and my doctor gave me some scripts for the "basic" tests. All mine came back normal, DH's s/a came back abnormal. So we are dealing with that now and although it really stinks most of the time, I have to feel ok that at least we know what we are dealing with. In Oct. we should have more answers

Re: How did you find out?
I went for an HSG that was not able to happen because of my stenotic cervix. That was the beginning of my IF journey.

Re: How did you find out?
For me it took a while. We got PG the first month trying but it ended in m/c. Then we were unsuccessful for a year. I know I could have made my case to get in to see an RE but I wasn't ready at that time. Then, they ran all the tests and told me I'm unexplained infertility.

Re: How did you find out?
I tried for a year and then came on this message board. I read just a few of the posts and realized it was time to see an RE. I knew from a previous pregnancy that I had a genetic issue which may cause infertility issues, so it was just more of a confirmation.

Re: How did you find out?
I was diagnosed with PCOS around the age of 15 so I knew that when we started trying I was going to need help.

Re: How did you find out?
About 4 years ago I switched from the pill (on it for 10 years) to the birth control patch. I started having all kinds of weird symptoms, like constant dizziness, ringing in my ears, panic attacks, my allergies went nuts, etc. After seeing many, many doctors, my ob/gyn thought it might be PCOS and that my body was reacting to the change in hormone levels from the pill to the patch. She did some testing and sure enough I was diagnosed.
We weren't TTC then so it seemed pretty abstract...like we may have problems, but it didn't matter then so I tried not to think about it too much. When we decided to start TTCing earlier this year we went right to an RE.

Re: How did you find out?
We had a natural BFP that was a chemical. I had an appointment with my OBGYN and she referred me to an RE - I was 36 and it had been over 6 months since I came off BCP

Re: How did you find out?
I knew pretty quickly that something was wrong. My first natural AF after being on BCP (I'll add I was on BC for less than 2 years) was 35 days (I even remember the date - Oct 2006) and then I didn't get AF again until Mid-Jan 2007 and only because the Dr. prescribed me Provera. I was diagnosed with PCOS in Dec 2006

Re: How did you find out?
After a 1 1/2 of ttc we finally went to see an RE at the recommendation of my ob/gyn. Through tests, we learned that it was a male factor that made it difficult for us to conceive.

Re: How did you find out?
After I had my second miscarriage we saw an RE. Then I had 1 more and an ectopic in which I lost 1 of my tubes and we pulled out all the stops, traveling to Chicago to see a renowned Dr. and seeing a specialist who did not take insurance. I am waiting to O now and will try naturally for one month. Then try clomid for a month or 2 and take it from there.

Re: How did you find out?
My sister had a m/c and they ran the rpl and discovered genetic thrombophilia. Since it was genetic the doctor said I needed to get tested and after almost 2 years of testing I have been found to have 3 genetic thrombophilia, 2 aquired thrombophilias and PCOS. But with proper care and meds I have been able to get pregnant and am 23 weeks along. I never imagined I would have trouble conceiving especially since I have always had regular cycles but it is the unseen things that got me.

Re: How did you find out?
I have been married since 1999. Out of all of those years I have only been on BCP maybe 1 year total. The other time nothing...No BCP and No BFP so we knew something was off. We have severe MF IF

Lovenox will prevent the blood clots and the imunologist will fix the antibodies. No losing hope! You have been through so much and it will happen for you and your Dh

I'm pretty much in the same boat - we are on month 6 of trying unsuccessfully and found out a couple of weeks ago DH's s/a came back low. We are going to a urologist next week so I'm hoping that that will put us on the right track. I've charted and used opks and have been ovulating so I think that I am ok and hopefully we are only dealing with one issue.

Right I think you were the one when I first posted on Infertility that suggested that I go with my gut. I'm really glad that we talked to the Dr. and that we are already on our way to see a specialist! so, THANK YOU! Many people kept telling me I was driving myself crazy, and putting to much stress on myself, and that it takes time but I felt like something wasn't right and I'm so glad I acted now instead of waiting a year!

Re: How did you find out?
After trying for 1.5 years i had a HSG that shoewd my left tube completely occluded, then a 2nd HSG showing the same. had a lap procedure in March was told i could probably still conceive naturally. Saw the RE in May thinking i was going to do IUI, to find out due to past surgeries and adhesions i had to do IVF--which ended in a m/c & d/&c !! Gotta love fertility issues!

Re: How did you find out?
When we decided to try, I just never O'ed and never got a period, so i figured something must be up, and through encouragement of women on these boards sought the advice of an RE.

Re: How did you find out?
Well, when I was a teenager my periods were always irregular, so I always had this nagging feeling I would have issues when I wanted to have a baby. When I went of BCP, AF came pretty regularly for 4-5 months, and then stopped coming. I knew something was wrong, so I went to my OB/GYN who told me it was NORMAL!! I knew that it wasn't normal so got a recommendation for a different OB/GYN who immediately suspected PCOS and did all the tests, which confirmed it. Like someone else mentioned- always go with your gut!
