How did you know if your child was autistic?

Were there signs? Could you tell? Was it an instinct you had?

i always knew something wasn't quite right with my son. When he was a baby, I couldn't quite put my finger on it. He just didnt seem to distinguish me from anyone else. He never reached up his arms for me to hold him, never looked to me for comfort if he was crying or got hurt. When he was a toddler and i would pick him up, he wouldnt lean into me, he would lean away. Things that didnt seem remarkable at the time, but now looking back all add up. When he was 18 months old, he still wasnt speaking. We had him evaluated and he received early intervention services. He was diagnosed with PDD when he was 4.
