How did you pick your hospital and
which hospital is it? My sister in law delivered at Winthrop twice and she's a P.A so I figured I'd go there (I also live in Westbury so it's convenient) but my friend's wife just delivered there this week and he said that I should check out some other hospitals cause the visiting hours suck, the rooms aren't that great, etc. What do you think? I'm currently TTC so once I get that BFP I need to find an OB and would need to find one for the hospital of my choice. TIA

Re: How did you pick your hospital and
I am probably the only preggo here delivering at Nassau University Medical Center.
It has a bad rap because it is a "county" hospital. But believe it or not it has the best trauma unit in state of NY.
Plus the maternity ward was completely renovated and redone about 7 years ago.
And, they are the only hospital on Long Island that offers water birthing. My midwife is affiliated there and all things just fell into place.

Re: How did you pick your hospital and
My Dr. is head of the board at Good Sam, so I will be delivering there. It mostly has to do with where your OB delivers.

Re: How did you pick your hospital and
i had to pick a new obgyn because my insurance changed, so i chose one based on the hospital i wanted to deliver at. i have heard really good things about south nassau, so i asked for recommendations on here for docs that worked out of that hospital. so far i'm very happy with the practice.

Re: How did you pick your hospital and
Honestly? I work in med mal law, so I knew I didn'twant to deliver at one hospital (I lived on Staten Island at the time) and I needed a new OB, so I investigated all of the OBs that only delivered at SIUH and found one that I really liked.
Most LI hospitals are good, I would only stay away from South Nassau.

Re: How did you pick your hospital and
I picked my doctors first, but knowing what hospital then deliver in I was already comfortable with that. Once I was pregnant and took Lamaze we went on a hospital tour and I felt even more comfortable with the hospital. Plus a few people I new had delivered there and had good experiences.
The only thing I don't like about the hospital is that they do not offer a private room. And even if there is an empty room they still put you in the room with other woman if their room is not full. Luckily, the day I was released was when the third bed was being filled.

Re: How did you pick your hospital and
I delivered at Winthrop twice and I had a great expereince. I also did pay for the private room so I don't know what the doubles were like. They are very strict with their visiting hours but I wouldn't my newborn catching anything from outside people. You are home in 2-4 days so people can hold the baby then. They also have a NICU which not all hospital have.

My OB/GYN's practice delivers at LIJ. They like knowing that Schneider's Children's Hospital is right there in the event of an emergency.

Re: How did you pick your hospital and
I probably don't count here since we live in MA but the OB practice that I go to only delivers at one hospital and it's literally just them and one other practice that delivers there. That's it! 8 doctors in total do a rotating schedule and deliver everybody. Keep in mind that they probably only deliver about 10 babies a week in total..
So our choices were to go where "everyone in the South Shore" goes" down to Plymouth, or to make the 1 hour trek up to Boston and have our choice of X, Y, Z but my OB doesn't deliver at any of them.

Re: How did you pick your hospital and
My doctor only delivers at Winthrop - which is the hospital I wanted to deliver at anyway.
I just took a tour of Winthrop on Monday and I thought the rooms were pretty good. The L&D rooms are very nice with all the latest and greatest technology. The rooms you stay in afterwards are your typical hospital rooms, nothing fancy or anything.
Visiting hours are for your baby's protection. Dad's hours are 10-10, grandparents is 2-4 and general public is like 6-8 (baby is not in your room at this time).

I'm delivering at South Nassau. I like the private rooms and that is where my doctor is affiliated. My best friend delivered both of her children there.
Just curious why you wouldn't recommend S.N.
