My district has a 72% opt out rate. I am amazed and proud.

See how yours did:

Opt-out numbers link

ETA: I don't think all districts have submitted numbers as of yet.

I'm friends with Dr Hynes of Pat-Med on FB and he said something like 75% opt out there.
That is awesome!!
I wish we had a superintendent like him- he is just SOOOO great for the students and he fights against this testing BS every day.

We went up from the year before, not exactly where I wanted the #s to be, but an increase is good.

Hmmmm. My district is just under 60%. I didn't think it would be that high, TBH. I'm looking at the strongest districts (manhasset, great neck, Jericho, syosset) and their numbers are very very low. This concerns me.

Is this testing going to just go away, or are these districts opting out going to be penalized in some way?

I don't think they are all officially in yet. Yes, I read the letter Dr. Hynes sent out to his families and it was awesome. He and Dr. Rella of Comsewogue are amazing.

Mostly due to the demographics of the schools. In Jericho all teachers and administration wore opt out shirts last friday. So it's not for a lack of trying. There is no penalty to schools for opting out either. There was a discussion about this on Long Island OPT OUT facebook page a couple of days ago.

My district will not report and is only giving us an "about" number. We are about "50 percent" up from last year which was 42 percent.

Thank you. My DC is one year away from this testing. We are in POB and I'm really shocked at how high the opt out rate is. I assumed it would be in line with Syosset for example but no, not at all. Good to know the districts won't be penalized in any way. I think that is my main concern. Going to check out the FB page

Not only are their numbers low but, the numbers that are opting out are mostly doing so for different reasons than those expressed on here. I will say that some areas actually view the tests totally differently than what is presented on these boards.

What other reasons would they be opting out for? Oh wait, you are the same person that said most people are opting out because the parents know their kids will fail them.

Re: How did your district do in opt-outs?

I have been surprised that my district's numbers are low- 22% at the intermediate school [3-4-5] and maybe 35% at the middle school. I do not live on LI but we have a few parents who are pretty vocal on our local parent's page and I am a little disappointed that more didn't opt out. In my DD's class it's just her and one other kid.

However I am glad she isn't taking it. I heard about major issues with the Grade 3 exam. And I saw one of her friends today who told me she and a few kids from her class worked on the test for 5 hours. She missed recess and library because she was still working. Chat Icon

No numbers out on our district, not that I'm shocked. I'm guessing it to be around 40% based on what my DD has told me.

I looked at that too. If standardized testing is eliminated, there will be no way to rank stronger or weaker districts at elementary school level. I think the tests will be shortened and minimized, rather than eliminated.

Those results are skewed anyway. If you look at any of the school ranking sites, you will NOT get an accurate picture because of a. the inappropriate testing, and smarter kids doing poorly, and b. districts that have a huge opt out rate.

Graduation rates, students going off to college, etc. is how districts should be ranked.

If you look at the 2015 test scores in districts all over LI, many were 60-90% proficient or better ( stronger districts). While others were 20-30% proficient (lower rated districts). How does one explain that? Did Three Village get a different test than Sachem that was more age appropriate?

I went to that school district. Your superintendent was one of my favorite teachers. Chat Icon

My district is split pretty evenly. My daughter is years away from testing but is already hearing about it from the older siblings of friends. Yesterday, she told me she doesn't want to leave kindergarten because "all the big kids have to take tests and it makes them sad." Chat Icon
