How do I approach this?

My poor boss. She has been traveling back and forth to Chicago every weekend (and sometimes staying for a few more days) because her mother is sick. We just got word that she is going to pass away shortly.

When it happens I will wait a day or so and then call her and offer my condolences. I am sure we will send her flowers as a department.

I know there isnt much more I can do so I dont know exactly what I am asking for....but I am just so sad for her. She is a very emotional person and very depressed person, and this is going to break her, I know.

I would get a card for your department to sign (even if it's one now that say's we're thinking of you). Save the flowers for when the tragic does happen!
