How do I break this habit???
UGH!! I don't even know how it started or remember when but, DS will only fall asleep at night on the couch downstairs in the family room. Then, once he's asleep, we'll bring him up to his crib. I guess it first started when he was exhausted and would pass out early. Then, it just became habit. Now, I can't break him of it. If we try to put him to bed in his crib, he screams bloody murder and wants to go back on the couch. I tried to leave him there once and let him CIO. The dog was in the room with him and suddenly she ran out and then I heard a thud and out comes someone else! That was the only time he's ever climbed out of his crib!!! Even when he wakes up in the morning, he calls for me. He never climbs out.
I don't know what to do. We used to have such a nice bed time routine but now it's just fallen apart.
Last night was the worst though. He fell asleep on the couch and I brought him up to his crib. About 30 minutes later he woke up screaming. He wanted to go back on the couch. I tried to sooth him and sit with him in the chair upstairs but no, he wanted down. So, we went downstairs. 30 minutes later, I thought he was asleep and I tried to bring him to his crib but he woke up and started screaming again. This happened several times until I gave up and let him sleep in my bed I know, bad. But I couldn't take it and needed to get to sleep. I don't want to do that again.
Any thoughts, suggestions, anything???? I need to stop this, now! Thanks for listening.
