Sleeping Advice..how to break a bad habit?

Matty was a great sleeper. In June, he was teething bad and was getting up every night, to soothe him I gave him a bottle (its the only thing that seemed to work). Now that he's feeling more comfortable, he still getting up every night to have a bottle. I know he's not hungry, I've uped his food intake to insure he was getting enough but he still gets up. For example, last night after a block party, we gave him his last bottle (8oz) at 9:30 and he was up at 1:15. DH tried to chill him out but the bottle was the only thing to do the trick. He should not have been hungry.
We've tried CIO but he'll scream for what feel like an eternity (we've let him go for 20-25 minutes).
So what do I do?
-Keep giving him the bottle and hope he outgrows this bad habit
-let him CIO until he falls asleep
-??????
We never had to deal with this with my first son.
TIA

Re: Sleeping Advice..how to break a bad habit?

Well, we had a similar issue when Ava was 8 months old. She was waking in the middle of the night and the only thing to put her to sleep was a bottle, even though she hadn't woken for one since she was a few weeks old. It turns out that we needed to look at her bedtime routine from when we originally put her down. She was freaking out because she'd go to sleep under one set of conditions (in our case, with the tv on, but no volume becuase her crib was in our bedroom and I needed to see where I was going when I went to bed), but she'd wake up in the middle of the night with no tv on. She was basically trained to go to bed with the tv on and couldn't go back to sleep with it off. Go figure, right? So we stopped putting her to sleep with the tv on and started sleeping in separate rooms and never had a problem since. So many take a look at his sleep associations. Babies need consisten sleep conditions, and they all wake in the middle of the night, but sometimes they get scared if things are different. HTHChat Icon

how old is he? Mine is 7 months, he sometimes wakes at 4 AM-eats quickly then goes back down. I get up because he really does eat a lot at that time, it's not a pacifier to go back to sleep.Chat Icon

He's 8 months. I'm going to try to take away the night light. Maybe its too bright which causes him to stay awake when he happens to stir in the middle of the night.
I dont know, I'm at a lose with this one.
