How do I stay on track??

I feel like I am too busy to work out! I know so many people use that excuse, but I do need SOME down time. As a teacher, I am up early and out the door. My teaching day ends at 3 but then I coach so I"m not home til at least 4:30. Then it's time to make dinner, etc. Once I eat dinner, I'm in no mood to work out. How do you ladies find the time? For me, the workout I'm most interested in is running. If we had a treadmill I'd run on that in the AM before work, but I just don't think we have the funds for one right nowChat Icon

I'm in the same boat... it's so hard to stay in a routine. Do you have someone to work out with? DH and I try to make a point to go to the gym together. It makes it so much easier to get motivated.

I force myself to get up at 5:30am and go to the gym. Working out before work is always better for me. I have a lot of energy first thing in the morning.

Once you do this for a few times, you get used to it and then on the mornings that you decide not to workout (this morning I took off) you feel like you are missing something.

I get up at 6 and same with you, am done with work around 4:30. If I don't go on my way home, I never go, so I make myself go on the way home everyday.

Re: How do I stay on track??

I'm lucky - I work 7:30 - 4pm, so I hit the gym 3-4 nights/week on the way home and then on either Saturday or Sunday. I'm home by 5:30, so I still have plenty of time to make dinner, etc.

I go at either 5:45am or straight from work depending on what I have going on that day.

Re: How do I stay on track??

I go right after work (5pm). I find that if I plan to go any later than 6...I never make it. And, I definitely need to go before dinner.

I'm in the same boat too, except I'm out the door at 730 AM, not home until 6:15, if the train is on time. No fun!

Re: How do I stay on track??

4:30?? I get home at 8:30! You have prenty of time, trust me!

You can workout before dinner. it is the perfect time to do so!

Take your gym clothes with you so that after work, you go straight to the gym. all you need is 1/2 hour-45 minutes.

Re: How do I stay on track??

I have to go before work or else I wouldn't end up going as I always end up working late.
If I got off at 4:30, I would try to go straight from work.

Re: How do I stay on track??

I usually go at around 5 or 5:30pm and workout for a little over an hour (30 min of weights and 20 - 30 min of cardio, abs, stretch).

I've become a master at quick meals! I plan all our meals for the week on Sunday and try to find things that are quick, easy, and healthy. That way when I get home from the gym, I'm not faced with spending an hour in the kitchen making dinner.

Maybe you can try to go to the gym 2 nights during the week, but then both Saturday and Sunday too.

Re: How do I stay on track??

THanks ladies...but I don't belong to a gym. DH doesnt think it's worth the money Chat Icon especially since I will mostly be running on a treadmill if I do. I'm a runner (or was) and my problem is getting the motivation to get out on the road and run and be consistent! We're looking into buying a treadmill and if we do, then I think I will be better at sticking to a routine, since it'll be right here in the house.

Re: How do I stay on track??

We got our treadmill from Craigslist. It is almost new (barely used) Proform treadmill for a fraction of the retail price. Maybe you should look there Chat Icon
I run 4 days a week... i try to wake up early to run before work but I am too lazy lately, so I just do it right when I get home from work and eat dinner after I workout. I also have dumbbells at home, a stationary bike, and a few dvds. I do 3 nights a week after work and one weekend day.
