How do kids have a way of breaking your heart over anything - WWYD?

I just went to check on my 5 1/2 year old in bed bc she was coughing and she is in bed crying. Apparently another girl in her Kindergarten class went into a pocket in her baackpack and took a treasured item from her and wouldn't give it back. What was the item? A small plastic band aid holder that holds 3 band aids! My DH got it at a trade show and he thought she would like it and she loves this thing for some reason, probably bc Daddy brought it home for her. So this little stinkpot kid in her class took it and when my DD asked for it back, she wouldn't give it to her. I asked DD when she didn't say something to the teacher but she wanted to tell me about it. Her face was so heartbroken and upset - I cannot stand it - I wanted to cry on the spot but I have to be calm and soothing and explain how I will write a note to her teacher on Monday to see if she can get it back. I don't even know the kid or the parents but I'm wondering if I should call them - I don't know if it's better or not but she is so upset. Should I just stick with writing a note to the teacher or deal with the stinking thief's parents myself?

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Poor T! I can't believe a kid would do that!

I would probably just write the teacher. I am horrible when it comes to confronting another parent. I want the 3rd party to intervene.

I hope she gets it back!

Awww poor DD!!!! I think the note is the way to go first, try that on Monday. I'd be HORRIFIED if my child did that so hopefully the teacher/parents will respond appropriately!!!!
Poor little thing, I'm sure she's so upset because it was a special gift from Daddy Chat Icon Chat Icon

Write the note first. Ask the teacher if she could intervene because it happened in school. I'd also ask if she would prefer if I handled it directly with the parents.

We had something similar happen this past year (it happened in the aftercare program) and learned our lesson, no personal items at school with the exception of show & tell.
