How do they test for a UTI?
MY DD has been feeling down and out for the last 3 days, fever up to 103... called the dr... they want me to come in tomorrow and test for UTI (they arleady looked in her mouth, ears, and thought she was just teething on Thursday, but now he thinks its more...) I am just wondering what I am in store for tomorrow.... so.. what is the typical test for a UTI on a 15 month old who cannot urinate on command?

I'm pretty sure they have to use a catheter  Although I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to bring a diaper and take a urine sample from that

i imagine they would use a catheter.. that is what they did to my newborn son who can't urinate on their own also.
i hope she is okay

They will give you a special little bag that sticks onto her. It will catch her pee, while she wears a diaper.

yea i wish they could use diapers.. it would be so much easier..
but i think they have to dip it for a quick result, then send it out to the lab.

They use a urine bag. It's a bag that has two sticky ends "to hold it in place", they place it over the area ( it doesnt hurt her) and then a diaper as usual. when she urinates, it goes directly in the bag. You then peel off the tabs and pour the urine into a sterile cup..DONE

Some offices use a catheter, but ask them about the urine bag...less uncomfortable for her..good luck

Thanks.. I hope we get the urine bag!!! (never in my life did I think I would be saying that)... if they use the bag, do you wait for her to pee in office? Or do you come back with the urine... if they do the cathader, do they do the cathader in the office?!?! Thats what I saw when I googled it... and now I am nervous...

We left with the bag and brought it back. They NEVER mentioned a cathader.
