How do you clean your Iron?
Rich always irons his own clothes (I love it!), but he somehow managed to get something green and slightly tacky on the plate... soap and water didn't work, and I don't want to use a scrubby thingy just yet because I'm afraid to scratch it!
It's a T-FAL "ultraglide diffusion" steam iron with a shiny non-stick coated plate....
THANKS!

Re: How do you clean your Iron?
I did that once to an iron. It fell off the ironing board and landed on top of a plastic Gap bag
I turned it up to it's highest setting then I folded a towel a bunch of times and wiped the plate with the towel. Since it was hot the pieces of the bag slowly wiped off.
Then my mom yelled at me for ruining her good towel.

If you don't need it right this second, you can buy a sole plate cleaner kit--I think at supermarkets or Bed Bath & Beyond. I ironed the carpet & it got all that off, no problem.

Re: How do you clean your Iron?
SOunds crazy, but I laid the iron on our carpet, turn the setting to the lowest setting and wipe it on newspaper. It takes a little bit but it works

Re: How do you clean your Iron?
There is this stuff ( I know you can get it at the wantagh 5 and 10) it is hot iron cleaner. I use it about every 6 months. It is a cream you put on the iron and it is takes everything off like new. It is in a yellow package and it is a little white tube. I think it is just called Hot Iron Cleaner. My DH goes a little nutso with the starch so my iron turns black and it gets it totally clean. It is kind of amazing. I guess you could look for it in the supermarket?

Same here! Can't be bothered although I've used the iron cleaner and it's never really worked that great and the iron was never really the same.

Re: How do you clean your Iron?
try the iron cleaner that they sell at bed bath and beyond, and use a tooth brush, it should come off. If not attempt to use a sponge the scatch side VERY LIGHTLY if not its shot gotta get a new one. But it will come off, no worries.

Re: How do you clean your Iron?
thanks ladies... i tried everything last night and it didn't come off.... i ended up skimming it very gently with a straightedge razor and that seemed to do the trick!
