How do you deal with mother's day
This is my first time posting on this board. it looks like we won't be having kids we don't have anyone to watch the child when i would have to return to work and we can't survive on one income. on thursday, someone at work said happy mother's day to me. i said why would you wish me happy mother's day. i know wishing someone happy mother's day could mean so many things. it hurts a little more since i can't be with my own mother on mother's day...she lives in florida. i call to wish her a happy mother's day. my dad picks up the phone and said happy mother's day to me. i almost lost it. i said, dad i to call you right back. i felt that if i didn't do that, i would've lost it. for some reason i get emotional on this day. how do you deal with this day when someone says happy mothers day

I just say thank you and move it along.
My aunt said to me yesterday after I wished her a Happy Mother's Day, said "you too....well soon I hope."
Yeah....we are child free by choice and it ain't happening!

Re: How do you deal with mother's day
I don't think I've ver had any one wish me a Happy Mother's day. That would be very awkward. I don't even have pets or God children!
I was fortunuate enough to be able to spend it with my mother, Godmother & grandmother, but it still can be difficult to see other people my age or younger out with their own kids.
I can't imagine how difficult of a day it is for those who are CF not by choice AND have lost their own mother.

I just say thanks. I used to correct people and say im not a mom then the whole "well soon" comment comes and had to keep myself from going to jail.

Re: How do you deal with mother's day
I put my head in the sand.
Not because someone might assume I am a mother, but more that the fact that my mother isn't with us anymore.
It doesnt bother me if someone assumes I am a mother, but then again if I wasn't childfree by choice it might be different.

This. And, I try to be away for the day.
While I was at a museum this past Sunday, and was wished it by the ticket taker, I couldn't help wishing there was a National Museum for Non-Moms.

Re: How do you deal with mother's day
People most likely aren't being malicious when they say it or intend to make you feel bad. I think many people just say it to adult women in general on that day.
I seem to get wished Happy Mothers Day by a lot of people every year (people at work, complete strangers, etc.) I just say thank you... though I feel a little like a fraud not correcting them, I don't feel like getting into the whole "oh I don't have kids, blah blah blah" and then they feel bad for saying anything and it becomes awkward. They mean well, so I just say thanks.

Re: How do you deal with mother's day
This is why I don't wish people happy mother's day/father's day unless I know them personally and they actually have kids. I never want to make someone feel uncomfortable
