How do you deal with nasty coworkers?

Today I found out some of my coworkers have been saying things behind my back and its really upsetting me. What can I do so it stops bothering me. I don't want this ruining my vacation. I have have a coworker who keeps tabs on me, like if I am a minute late to something, she makes a mental note of it and I think she told someone on me because of it.

i hate people like that!!! its such HS BS! i m sorry you are going through that. I would just kill her with kindness.. im not sure if saying anything to her directly would change anything (but its a choice you have)

this has happened to me this year. i have decided to ignore it. i felt like the person doing it has many problems and insecurities of her own and i'm not really worried that people will value her opinion of me. but also, i've heard so much gossip about other people i guess it makes sense that at some point people will talk about me too! plus it is impossible to please everyone. it's hard though, especially when you've done nothing to provoke the person. i've wanted to say something to the person i've had to deal with, but i figured with someone like that it'll just blow up into a big thing and i don't think she deserves that kind of attention.

Honestly, it is hard but you have to try to ignore it. I have found that people only act like that when they are jealous of you. When someone thinks you have a great life, they will try to bring you down. I had an experience like this at a previous job. I ended up leaving after 6 months because this girl was horrible to me. Everyday I was getting called into the directors office for something "I did or said" I later found out this girl thought I was Miss perfect. I was lucky enough to be able to leave my job cause it wasn't really a good job anyway. If you have a job that you really can't leave, I would find people you can be freinds with and really just feel bad for the people making your life miserable. I hope this all works out for you.

yes, I agree - you have to be like a duck and let it roll off your back. I have learned people like this are very cyclical, eventually (if you don't fan their fire) they move onto their next victim.

honestly, i'm the total opposite.

i confront people. i have no problem with it. i state what i am upset with as calmly but strongly as i can and whatever was being said stops because they know i will confront again if i need to.

i don't ignore things that are untrue being said about me. it happened twice to me this year (one person was spreading that i was pregnant, and i WAS, but i hadn't told her or anyone yet and wasn't ready to). i flat out called her on it and she had every excuse in the world, but you know what--it stopped and we are still friends and everything is fine.

although i do believe in killing with kindness, i don't believe in that when your job or reputation is on the line.

I agree with PP, I would say something about it. I deal with a bunch of nasty, mean colleagues, and I call them out on it. It always turns into some type of joke.
