How do you deal with the holiday blues?

I have to say that Christmas is not the happiest occasion for me since I don't have that many good memories of that time of year.
I'm trying to change for Alia but I still can't help but to feel kind of down during that time.

Does anyone else go through that, and if so how do you deal with it?

Re: How do you deal with the holiday blues?

When I was single the holidays were a drag for a plethora of reasons, not worth going into.

All I could really do was take time to pamper myself- I used to buy myself some small things that I wanted and I wrapped those things and put them under my tree. I also used to have a small party- being around my friends made me feel more chipper.

This is really the perfect time for you to begin some traditions for you and Alia to carry through the years. Chat Icon

They are not the happiest of times for me either for a variety of reasons. I just try to think about the fact that its mostly for kids, its nice for them to be happy and excited and feel "magical" about Santa and everything.

I could have written the above post... I had MANY years where the holidays REALLY depressed me .. a lot of it based on me being single and/or in another bad relationship. And I would cringe when the season approached, because it would only reinforce (to me) how lonely I was

I agree with what everyone else said.. Your family is now you, your DH and Alia and NOW is the time to start nice traditions of you own to last thru the coming years

I'm sorry this is a tough time for you... but realize you are not alone, many people feel the way you do and the holidays aren't always wonderful for everyone..

My only 'advice' is to try to just remember the little blessings in your life ... since that is what truly epitomizes the holiday seasonChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

For some reason the holidays are always a letdown for me. I don't know why. I enjoy the anticipation and the buildup than the actual days.
