How do you deal with work with all these dr appts?
To combat my time out of the office I come in early, stay late, do ALL I can do not be seen as a slacker or anything less than a perfect employee.
I know everyone is wondering what my "secret" illness is. I just tell my boss I have a drs appt, or I have to have a procedure.
Since we found out yesterday what the diagnosis is, I foresee A LOT more appts in the future.
What to do/what to say?
Some people ask me if I am okay and I say no not really and change the subject quickly.

Re: How do you deal with work with all these dr appts?
Most RE offices are open very early in the morning so you can go to your appointments before work. My RE starts around 6:30AM. I hate all the appointments and luckily I have been able to keep things private at work. I have been late a few times, usually because of the long IUI appointments but so far it has worked out O.K. HTH!

Fortunately my job is very flexible. But I always try to make my appointments at 7am and I can usually get to work in manhattan by 9:30.

Re: How do you deal with work with all these dr appts?
At my RE all morning monitoring during the week is 5:45-7:30am. No appointments, first come, first served. They get REALLY busy, so I always make sure I am there by 6:00. I'm usually out by 6:20, so no problem getting to work.

They should really respect your privacy. Who is asking you co-workers or your boss?

Re: How do you deal with work with all these dr appts?
I always tried to make sure that I got there with plenty of time to spare in the mornings so I could get to work on time. Most RE's are open very early in the morning so that the only time you should lose is that of IUI's or retrievals and transfers.

My boss is totally cool. He does not have time to deal with MY crap. Its mainly my coworkers....some of them are kinda all up in my (and everyone elses business). From what are you eating for lunch to why did she leave early today to staring at my computer to see what I am doing work related or not.
I guess once I start with an RE I will be able to get really early appts. Right now I had a few with my obgyn, the HSG and bloodwork. Thankfully DH and I have a day off from work coming up together so that is when we scheduled his urologist appt.

Re: How do you deal with work with all these dr appts?
I was totally planning on keeping it private until my boss saw me in tears in my office one day I filled her in on what was going on and turns out she went thru the same thing to have her son! Luckily my dr office is around the corner and she said I can have flexibility when it comes to my appts etc bc she knows how it can be. If you feel comfortable enough, maybe tell your boss so that will take away 1 stressfull thing from the whole process!

Oh that is so sweet!
My boss is a man and his nickname should also be Perez Hiton or....CNN! It's like gossip central at work. I guess I will just have to do my best and keep my appts as early as possible in the future although I still end up being late for work.

Re: How do you deal with work with all these dr appts?
When I was seeing the RE and had to go to a lot of appts. it was very hard because I live in Stony Brook and I teach in Flushing which as you know is quite a hike!! Even with my RE having early morning appts. it still didn't help me much because I have to leave for work at the time of the earliest appt. and the late appts. were never late enough because of my commute home. Because I teach it's not like other jobs where you can get away with staying late or coming in earlier, I have to be there from 8:20-3:17 no matter what SO as much as I HATED to I had to tell my principal what was going on. She was the LAST person I wanted to know about my IF issues because she is a witch but there was no other way around it if I wanted to get to my appts. She surprised me and after I told her she was okay with everything and she didn't give me a hard time at all when I needed to take off or come in late/leave early.
Maybe it's a good idea to tell your boss what is going on so at least you won't have to worry when you have your appts. about coming up with a good excuse or reason you have to leave. If your boss knows he/she will just understand (hopefully) and it will be a little less stress on you. As far as everyone else at work was concerned I use to do the same thing, I always said I was fine and changed the subject. I didn't want them all knowing about my IF issues, it wasn't anyone's business and aside from that, nobody really understands it anyway and I just never wanted to get into it with them.
Anyway, you'll figure it out. Do what's best for you so that as you go through your treatment you have minimal stress at your job. Your focus has to be on you and what you need right now and you don't want to have to worry about work and add extra stress to things. Lots of luck!!
