Re: how do you feel about "crashing"
I don't care who posts where but I think RESPECT and SENSITIVITY should be given to the forum purpose. For example, I wouldn't post a fabulous oreo cheesecake recipe on the fitness forum or talk about getting an abortion on the TTC forum, etc.
But I don't see the point in arguing an opinion when you don't walk in someone else's shoes.

Exactly. I have posted on the childless family board before when I felt I really had something to add. But I *hope* I did so with sensitivity and respect.
I think we can all offer insight to others even if we are not in that place right now. However, pretend you are talking to someone in person- be respectful.

Re: how do you feel about "crashing"
Until LIF restricts access to boards I "dont belong on" I'll post (respectfully) where I like

Re: how do you feel about "crashing"
It doesn't really bother me too much because I think a lot of people can bring good things to various discussions.
However, I have noticed message boards that often become train wrecks when certain people post about certain topics which really aren't geared to the majority of the posters.
For example, I go to another board, which I am more or less just a mentor on now since I am older, but it's geared to 20-somethings just starting out.
A lot of them don't have good jobs yet, live at home, etc.
It seems like every week someone will come on there and post about how they "only" make $100K a year or some other BS or how they want to upgrade from one luxury car to another and ask the posters to offer suggestions on how to "improve" their situation.
And it seems like it's always the same people stirring up the pot.
I've gotten told that I am the one with issues when I bring up their lack of sensitivity. It's very frustrating because a lot of boards won't ban people who like to stir up controversey unless they really harass someone through pm's and such.
Fortunately, I haven't really seen it too much on here, but I only really go on a couple forums.

Well put by both Christine and Shelly

Re: how do you feel about "crashing"
I think there should be a secret password that people need to know before posting on a board so it keeps things secure from crashers. In all honesty, I couldn't care less who posts where. As long as the purpose is to contribute, I really see no problem with it. For instance, not everyone is a parent, but I see nothing wrong with non-parents posting on the parenting board because everyone has nieces, sisters, nephews, cousins, maybe they're a teacher, etc., etc.

Actually, a few boards I go to from time to time only let you view, and then post on certain forums after you have been there for awhile, and are known to be a respectable member.

I find that ridiculous, personally.

I agree with Christine. As long as you are respectful, I have no problem with it. But shouldn't that be the norm anyway?
I have no problem with disagreeing, but some posters are not respectful of other people's opinions.

Re: how do you feel about "crashing"
zero issues with it.
who cares? post whatever. its the internet. maybe people make up fake kids, run fake marathons, have fake pets? how would you even know?
I would love to post on pets that's the one that drives me crazy, I refrain...I don't have a pet, I don't know where they are coming from. I would not add anything to conversation, so I stay away.
