This really needs to stop, I am the 99% and I think this entire movement is so unorganized and absolutely ridiculous. I think all of these people should go out and get a d*mn job and hold themselves accountable for their own future. JMO
AMEN!!! These "protests" are just their excuse to justify no being out there looking for a job. Forming little tent cities, creating havoc in the city, that is not going to change anything. If they want change so much they need to get involved in their government to get things changed because the people in there now, don't seem to be doing much to help.
you are being entirely insensitive and quite frankly ignorant with statements like these.
there are very few jobs out there. it is dire and cut throat. most people feel helpless and desperate at this point.
I can see people being upset at their execution but there is a great need for recognition of the dire straights people are in, and the incredible greed our nations laws have allowed to be fostered in this country.

I'm indifferent.
Part of me agrees that the execution is bad, but part of me is looking forward to 30 years from now, when we are living in our perfect Utopian society, praising the OWS and being horrified at big business.

this is what I would love for them to do...
look up the voting records of all the congresspeople in their area
see if they voted for tax breaks for wall street corps that they disagree with
cross reference that against voting records for laws that allow for greater outsourcing AND>>>>
OCCUPY THEIR OFFICES!!!
ITA with GioiaMia, their execution makes NO sense. it seems so typical of the description of this generation...they just want to ANNOY everyone into submission.
do some RESEARCH, make a REAL PLAN, and then maybe you will see some CHANGE.
yep! though protests in Congressional offices will land you in jail too.
i think what gets me about this and other protest movements is that there never seems to be anyone 'smart enough' to organize and do something effective and EDUCATE those they are trying to reach. And this one, like others before it, have now been taken over by the 'professional' protesters, whose only purpose is to get arrested, a la Code Pink.
It's sad, b/c the original purpose and idea behind the OWS movement was something that was cross-cutting and had the underpinnings of broad support.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
I think a good question is Who is really behind this....they seem to be mostly young adults who were against big business making such large profits and not paying taxes etc...now they have lawyers, I heard they had $100,000 or more in Bank of America (how ironic) to bail out those who get arrested...who is funding this? Now today they are causing problems for regular people trying to get to work...more like they are flat out again all capitalism and not just the loopholes that allow the rich to get richer....
Im honestly asking, I dont have a conspiracy theory...I'd like to know who is really organizing and funding this movement???

Alright, I'm normally as lefty as they get and I think OWS is a lefty think but I think it's ridiculous. Perhaps I haven't been paying enough attention but do they have any clear solutions? I not get your butts off the street and start being a productive member of society and stop whining about the 1% and disrupting businesses.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
They are suffering from a lack of leadership and lack of a singular cohesive message.
I am sure a good number of unemployed protesters would love to find jobs, but those are not exactly plentiful at the moment. I know a few intelligent, educated people who have been looking, and finding nothing.

I am not insensitive at all. I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE IN DIRE STRAIGHTS!!!! However I get my *** out there everyday to try and make ends meet. My husband works two jobs. There are jobs out there, but some of them are not the best and people feel they are above them. When it comes down to it, you have to do what you can to get by to support yourself and your family, taking what ever you have to right now.
What have their protests done? Two months they were in that park, what have they done, what has changed?? NOTHING. They want change they need to get involved in their government. Find their counselmen and complain to them. Not get in the way of the average every day person trying to get to work to support their family.

This is the beginning of the end.
I was a big supporter -- and I still support what they stand for.
But their execution stinks, and I can no longer support them.
I agree with this, but these kinds of statements still kill me:
Posted by Fluff203
I think they should all go home and get a job.
ITA. It makes me want to defend the movement and it makes me want to just shake people who say things like that and say "Don't you realize that the things they want will benefit each and every single one of us?! Don't you realize that you could be that person who has been unemployed for so long that your unemployment has run out in a HEARTBEAT?"
But actions like this make it really hard to support them.
ITA too and to add to this sentiment, to the people that say, "just get a job" do you have ANY idea how DIFFICULT it is to "JUST GET A JOB"??? Do you??
The unemployment rate is hovering around 10% CLEARLY you have NO IDEA what that really means and the impact it's having on people "just finding a job".
Again, I use my COLLEGE EDUCATED brother as an example. He has over 15+ years experience in finance, he was laid off and it took him a YEAR to just "FIND A JOB". He's got two kids to support do you know he got LESS than $400 a WEEK to support a house and family on. Do YOU think YOU could do that? NO.
So PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD, STOP SAYING "JUST GET A JOB"!!!!
Ugh.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
Heres a thought, why dont the clearly passionate, and motivated protesters use their energy to come up with a new brilliant idea, start a business, invent the next wheel...do SOMETHING that will help better the country for real...There may not be jobs available, but im sure if they all worked together and pooled their resources, they could find a way to start something successful...Thats kinda what our country is all about!
Instead, they would rather sit out in the cold and rain and whine about it!

Unfortunately, we're heading in that direction. The economy is in a bad, bad place and I don't see it improving. I am pretty sure that most people who lived in Hoovervilles did not want to be there either.

I agree.
I voted other.
I still support the general idea of the movement, but not the execution. I'm not going to say it's "wrong", more like "wrong-headed" or not the right move IMO.
I feel like it's getting out of hand. They could have accomplished the same thing without breaking many laws. How about instead of living in the park, having people take 4,6, or 8 hour shifts to sit there and rotate so that there is always a contingent there, but they're not breaking any laws. The whole tent city thing just got out of hand.

Sorry but have you seen most of the protesters out there? I just came from there...most of the protesters look like homeless hippies. I seriously doubt they are putting on suits or their Sunday best to try to find jobs. Maybe I'm naive but I'm going to take a leap and assume that most people who are unemployed and need a job to survive are not protesting on Wall Street rather they are spending their time looking for jobs wherever they can find them. Don't get me wrong, I agree with some of their points however I think at this stage the entire movement has been so poorly executed and so disorganized that it's almost laughable. No one is taking them seriously anymore. It's going to take A LOT for them to look credible. Right now all they are doing is preventing people from going to work and causing us tax payers millions of dollars in OT for the NYPD. How is that helping?

my point was about the total 10% of unemployed americans, not just those occupying wall street. to say to THEM go try to get a job is an affront to everyone else in their position, trying to figure out how to survive and find a job that will support their families.
I addressed the actual occupiers and how I feel about the execution of this movement in my first thread.

Disrupting the lives of other citizens is absolutely ridiculous!
Nothing good will come out of this. The protesters are putting their lives, tax paying citizens and cops at risk. They are taking police/ rescue resources away from other areas.
It's days like today that make me happy that my dad is retired from the NYPD and not on the front line of these crazy people!!!!!!!

Not ignorant at all and I certainly did not want to spark a debate with my comment, just simply stating my opinion. Like I said, I am one of the 99% and I totally get what the movement was started for and agree with it. I however dont feel that they are approaching it in a way that is going to cause any real change. I know a lot of people have a hard time finding a job but at least most are trying. Unfortunately, I feel that this movement has just become an excuse for people not wanting to at least try. I think that the majority of the people there are a poor representation of what the movement should stand for. They need to really regroup and figure out how to actually change things. I mean, blocking the subways, really. I dont see how that even makes any sense, im pretty sure that the 1% was nice and happy in their town cars getting to work this morning. Again, I do support what the movement stood for, not what it has become and certainly not the people who are using it as an excuse (and no, I do not believe everyone is using it as an excuse... just had to clarify before anyone makes that assumption)

Are they actually blocking the subways? I've heard tons of rumors but no reports of it.
I DID hear reports of them blocking the street causing delays for buses and taxis, but no actual reports about the subways.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
the whole thing pisses me off. it makes me mad b.c my DH works day in and day out on wall street. he just wants to make a living to support us. he misses countless hours for us and misses out on so much here. i get angry to think that these people resent him or are going to heckle him or get in his way when he's just trying to get to work or get home. it's costing the city so much $$$$$$$$. it's disorganized cops were hurt today it's a mess. i know my reason is selfish but it's my opinion. not saying the economy is fair or that there isn't a REAL underlying message that was orignally worth making a voice for but this is just IMO out of control and unfair to everyone now.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
Just saw on tv, a news reporte interviewed a protester tonight, and asked him "Do you feel bad about the inconvenience you caused today to people trying to get to work, people taking their kids to school, etc.?"
His response: "No I don't feel bad about it, those people should just be happy they have a job."
Shows that at the root of this protest is jealousy, and they don't mind making the lives of the average person (also the 99%) more difficult.

that's what i mean-give me a break i am also sickened by the stupid celebrities who are tweeting their support like they know ANYTHING about it. yeah like i'm sure they would be thrilled if these people were disrupting their VERY important movie-making. why not take out anger on these people who get paid MILLIONS for scoring a touchdown or winning an oscar...isn't that ridiculous too? my DH couldn't even get into his office (had to push his way in) and let me tell you my DH makes NOTHING big like these idiots are assuming. he just shows up b.c he has a job after losing his job 3 yrs ago.
