How do you get babies to sleep someplace other than on you?
Ryan will sleep in his crib but other than that he really just sleeps on me. I know he's too young to CIO so how do you get them to sleep in a co-sleeper, pack n play, crib, etc?

My daughter sleeps in her swing most of the day and even sometimes at night when I can't get her back down in her crib.

My DD falls asleep anywhere. She even fell asleep yesterday in her Bumbo. I don't really know how we got so lucky. Just wanted to send

Re: How do you get babies to sleep someplace other than on you?
DS sleeps in his crib the best, but he will nap in his swing, at during the week he sleeps on a bed at my ILs. The swing I put on a white noise machine and he generally falls asleep on his own, although I watch his cues, he has to be ready for a nap for this to work. The bed took awhile for my ILs but they swaddle him and use a white noise machine as well.
The trick we use when he is being stubborn, run the vacuum! He is out almost instantly!
He will fall asleep in his car seat or stroller sometimes but not for long!
I wouldnt do CIO yet, but my advice is just keep trying....took my ILs 3 weeks to get it right with DS but now they can get at least an hour out of him before they were lucky to get a 5 minute nap when they put him down!

Re: How do you get babies to sleep someplace other than on you?
it's trial and error everyday. But on a norm we try to sooth her to sleep before she gets too tired. Swaddle, shhhhhhh, walk/move around.
If that's not working we resort to the swing.
when she was younger ( she's only 6 weeks) she relaxed with the hair dryer, but I've stopped that at this point.
ETA: Sometimes it's a battle and takes a few tries to put her down, sometimes she is asleep instantly.

Re: How do you get babies to sleep someplace other than on you?
I have come to learn Kristina's stages....
Now she is at the stage where she eats, then chills out for about an hour, and then starts to fuss a little. That fussing is my window. I hold her on my shoulder, patting her back, and sooner than later she is out cold, and down she goes. BUT if I miss the fuss window - I am so up the creek!!!!!!!

Repetition. That's how DD finally started sleeping down. For the first 10 weeks of her life she slept on me...I slept in our chair in the living room, she slept on me. She would NOT sleep while down, ever, so this is how we slept. But we kept putting her down, and picking her up as soon as she cried. This went on for weeks... the length of time would increase gradually from when we placed her down to when she'd start crying, and finally, it just worked.
Good luck. You will get there

Re: How do you get babies to sleep someplace other than on you?
DD slept on my for the 1st 2 months...then I swaddled her with the Miracle Blanket and it was an easy transition to get her into the co-sleeper using that...then at 4 months she went into her crib.

Just to clarify, crying it out is actually the mom (and possibly dad) crying it out while the baby tries to self-soothe. Heartbreaking for sure.
Have you tried letting the baby belly sleep for naps?

Re: How do you get babies to sleep someplace other than on you?
My daughter is 12 weeks. She needs to be swaddled in the miracle blanket or in the swing. If not, she only wants to be on me. My older daughter was the same. Eventually they get it.
