how do you get your young toddler to...?

how do you get your young toddler to color?

i thought 13 months old was too young but then i read some posts and it seemed like some of the kids josh's age colored at hiome or in daycare.

when i try all he wants to do is eat the crayons or run around the room with them. which is expected but he doesn't like it when i try hand-over-hand to help show him what to do. do i just try again later or keep at it?

thanks!Chat Icon

DD also only ate the crayons at that age. I bought the Tadoddles (crayola) crayons. They are plastic (look like weeble wobbles) and are hard to eatChat Icon She just started really doing well with regular crayons at 18 months

It was like one day Logan wanted to eat them and the next day he just "got it".

I find that happens with a lot of things.

I just keep trying certain things every couple days and there's like this little "ah-ha" moment.

I used to sit them in thier high chair and color with them! My kids never really ate the crayons.

I sat on the floor with her and showed her all the colors it made on the paper. She didn't try to eat them. But I could see why they might try. I also put them in her hand and made her hand move them around the page.

Jacob started coloring at about 18 months. Before that, he had no interest!

It will come- I wouldn't sweat it! Cailen just mouthed the crayons too.... He started showing interest in daycare at 14 mts. Just a few teeny scribbles. When I got the "picture" I asked him "Did you do that??" And he actually pointed to the lines and motioned with his finger, so he totally got it.....

DS is 22 months old and he still sometimes tries to eat them. He tries to color now but he also is coloring my floor, etc.
