How do you girls let them CIO?

I am having an extremly hard time. I just can't do it.

Christopher woke up at 5:15 yesterday and 4:50 today. Something strange is going on. I don’t know if its his teeth or if he just wants me. I would rock him back to sleep and when I try to put him back in his crib he cries. I tried to let him CIO today but I couldn’t.

I know some people have great success with it and for those that do, I give them tons of credit for being so strong.

For us though, I just cannot. I have tried and either Megan makes herself sick from crying or I make myself sick listening to her. Its just not for us at all.

Re: How do you girls let them CIO?

We have to let her CIO when she wakes up at night. It stinks but she refuses to let dh or I rock her back to sleep- she pushes us, punches us,- it awful. We try to rock her for a little bit but usually have to give up and let her cry herself back to sleep.

This week is all teething so once she gets some tylenol she usually only cries for about 10 minutes and goes back. Last night was awful- she cried on and off for over AN HOUR. We both went in and comforted her but she was just beside herself. I felt horribleChat Icon

I totally understand. I couldn't do it either. It just broke my heart. I knew that when the time was right she would sleep. It took 7 months. Chat Icon

It is by far one of the hardest things we did/do with DS. The first few times DH and I sat on the couch holding hands while I cried. Had Lucas not adjusted quickly I would have given up but he was great with it. In less than four days he stopped crying and just went to sleep when we put him down. It's as though he realized that the effort wasn't worth it and just gave in. Like I said..I am grateful for that because otherwise I would have stopped.

My DH works nights and I had to wait til he was home for a couple of nights before I could do it.Chat Icon

What reassures me is that he wakes up happy in the morning, it makes me feel better I guess that he isn't holding a grudgeChat Icon

Re: How do you girls let them CIO?

I did it when she was 5 1/2 months old, I don't think at almost a year it would have worked for us... They know too much then...It was hard but I needed to try it and it worked in 3 days...
Sometimes when DD wakes up really early now, I have no choice but to start my day b/c she will not go back to sleep with CIO...or any other way for that matter...
Usually with DD, when she gets up super early it's b/c of her teeth...

I had no alternative. She never responded to being rocked, music playing, etc. So unless I was going to drive around in the car all night, crying was the only choice. When I tried to sooth her she get angrier than if I left her alone.

Re: How do you girls let them CIO?

I first let my dd CIO at around 8 months. She was waking up every half hour and wanted me to pat her on the back to fall back to sleep. So I decided to let her cio. It took about 4-5 days before she started sleeping through the night. It did get easier though. Unfortunately she started waking up at night again. Could be her teeth, the milk allergy, or simply she lost her pacifier. I usually let her cry for about 10 min. then if she doesn't fall back to sleep i go in there with Motrin. That usually works.
She's 13 months now. I was wondering last night when is it supposed to get easier?? ; )

I did it at 8 mos. VERY HARD FOR THE FIRST TWO DAYS, but I still say it was the best thing I did as a mother. My DD is an awesome sleeper now and has no trouble putting herself to sleep anywhere at any time.

this was us...except we had to do it at 13 mths. After 2 nights though...all of her sleep problems were fixed. I wish I would have done it sooner and not tolerate the middle of the night wakings and early rising...its made things worse. Try to nip it in the bud before it becomes a daily thing, Just my opinion.Chat Icon

same here...we tried the No cry Sleep solution, and worked, but then we had to use CIO, and worked for us. It was very difficult, but my boys have no problem getting to sleep at night.
If they do cry when we put them down, it is because they are NOT tired yet and are not ready for bed.

Re: How do you girls let them CIO?

I can only let him cry for 5 minutes at a time and then I go in and rub his tummy or back and tell him I love him and I am here but it is time for sleepy. I have to be sure he is not cold, hot or sick. Then, I feel that if there is nothing wrong, and he is secure we are here, he HAS to sleep if it is bedtime. DH wants me to not even go in, but I refuse. I can't let him cry wondering where we are. So, I go in every 3-5 minutes and he has never cried for longer than 20 minutes and that was with my going in 4 times.
