How do you give your pets medicine?

Normally I crush it for Molly and put it on a spoonfull of applesauce. She normally eats it all up. This morning she wasn't really into it. I don't know if it's because she was too sleepy or what.

What else can I try to trick the little pup?!!!

I put it in peanut butter.

Molly doesn't really like PB. She looks at it like "What do you expect me to do with this?"

I put the pill in either PB or Cream Cheese

Misty eats around the pill and then spits it out, so I now open her mouth and put the pill all the way in the back of her mouth, close her mouth and sort of rub her throat until she swallows (holding her muzzle closed).
I don't do this in an aggressive or vicious way and she takes her pills fine now.

I ask them if they want a treat, and make a big deal that they are getting a treat. Believe it or not, it works. That is how they take their daily vitamin and monthly heartworm medicine -- they think it is a treat

Tiger will eat the pill by itself...he eats anything.
My cat, I have to give him Tuna with it, because he eats around it.

I've heard a piece of cheese works also.

We trick Pastina.

We make her "sit" and "lay" and then give it to her as a reward. And, she gobbles it up, too.

I used to try that with Molly. I would say "Come get a treat" -- she caught on to me pretty fast.

We do the exact same thing!!!! Our dogs think they are getting a biscuit!

I put it in a huge glob of peanut butter, I don't break it up though...he usually eats the glob whole and doesn't even know what hit him

We've used peanut butter, cheese, baby food (a meat one), deli turkey, and when all else fails - putting it far back into the mouth and holding the mouth shut.

Glad the tuna worked! I'll have to remember that suggestion in the future!

I will put it whole in some Nutra cal (vitamin in a gel form, which she doesn't take anymore, but I got a tube just for this reason)

Or I stick it to a piece of Puperoni...which is crack to her!

Cheese or a slice of bologna or other cold cut.

This brings back nightmares. I had to give both of my cats worm meds when I got them. i'd never had a cat before. They spit them out and I finally ended up prying their jaws open and putting it at the back of the throat, they automatically swallowed. I felt so bad. They got treats before and after- deli meat. It was more traumatizing for me than them.

So I tried the Tuna again this morning - and she figured me out. She kept spitting it out the pieces of medicine and just ate the tuna.

She thinks she's smarter than me.....So I took it and wrapped it in cheese. Thanks for all the ideas!

I got her this time!!!!!
