How do you know its teething
and not something else?
DD has not been herself. She stopped sleeping well at night and for naps. She started sleeping through the night again, but the last 2 nights something keeps waking her up. She's crying and is consolable (meaning she's not up to eat.) Naps - she used to take a 2 hour morning nap, 2 hour afternoon nap and a short nap in early evening. Now she won't stay asleep more than a 1/2 hour.
Of course she's drooling and eating her hand but she's been doing that for awhile. She has some bumps on her gums (but not where you'd expect her first tooth to come in.) They aren't red or swollen. Oh and she's spitting up drool I think (she NEVER spits up) - its very clear not like formula and sometimes coughing like choking on her salvia.
She's mostly in good spirits just the sleeping is off. My friend came to visit today and swears she's got a tooth coming in.
ok I'm babbling - sorry so do you think the change in sleeping could be because a tooth is coming in or something else?
Thanks

Re: How do you know its teething
I really think a lot of what Hannah is going through is due to her teething.
She sounds so similar to how Steven is. He is getting better, but now I think he's getting his top two teeth.
His gums were swollen on the side and I kept saying that I thought he would get those first. I know it's rare for that to happen, but it can happen. Low and behold, the first two were the bottom front. Within days of each other.
Hannah sounds soooooo similar to Steven. Everything you say she is going through I say "Steven started that a few weeks ago." They are two weeks apart and everything she goes through, Steven went through two weeks ago. How freaky is that?
Anyway, enough rambling. I am by no means a doctor, but I really think Hannah is teething. Did you consider using Homeopathing soothing drops? They help tremendously. i use the Gentle Naturals, but Hylands has them too. I recommend the drops over the tablets. It doesn't always help 100%, but it takes the edge off.

Her bump is on the bottom side. She always chews on one finger on that side. How long did it take from when you noticed the swelling for the tooth to come in?

That is strange!!! She's following his lead!! Just give me updates so I know what to expect in a couple of weeks
Thanks for the suggestion with the drops. I'll have to go get some.

Re: How do you know its teething
Thsi went on for weeks.before Matthew popped his first tooth. He started to drool at 3 months and didnt get his tooth, well teeth at 6 and a half months. He didnt sleep through the night, but did well with naps (never had a problem with that. It could well be teething, but it may take awhile before that ttooth pops in...hopefully soon I found what worked the best was, take a washcloth..wet it and wrap it around an ice cube and tie it with a rubberband, Matthew really liked it

Re: How do you know its teething
It really shounds like Hannah is teething. I asked the Dr. about that when Sara started and she told me that they can teeth for a really long time before a tooth comes through. Sara was teething (drooling, chewing, fussy) for a long time on and off before her first tooth came through (around 8 months). The second one on the bottom followed quickly.
Now her top two teeth are coming in, which has been for a while now. They haven't yet broke through, but you can see they the gums swollen and white where the tooth it. I give her things to chew on and if she is really bad at night, the Dr. told me I could give her some tylenol to help her sleep and the has seem to do the trick. I don't do that every night, just if she is really fussy.
I have heard of the hyland tablets, but never tried them. Good luck.

Re: How do you know its teething
It sounds like maybe it could be reflux too - does she have any other symptoms? DD would wake about once an hour before she was on medicine - and she was definitely spitting up a lot of clear...
Ususally the first teeth are bottom center.
