How do you pick your next book to read?
Just wondering how people decide what book to read next? Out of the millions of books printed, how do you decide?
I like the Stephen King/Dean Koontz horror/sci-fi type genre, so I'm going through their books right now. I'm not sure what I'll go to after I finish all of their books, though....

Re: How do you pick your next book to read?
Its actually more and more difficult since getting the nook. I find my decision making takes much longer... i have 249 books on my nook. I have read over 100... so there are about 149 books right at my finger tips so it makes it even harder to pick. 75% of them are detective, mystery, political thriller types... the rest are book club, chick lit & YA types...
The only time its easy is if i start a series... i only know what my next book is because i was in the middle of a series when my sister made me read soemthing else lol

Re: How do you pick your next book to read?
I keep a running list of books I want to read. (On my phone I have a memo: "Books to read in 2012", and I also update my to read section on good reads). I make that list by recommendations, fave authors, bestseller lists, visiting amazon every now and then and looking around, and visiting book stores every now and then and reading blurbs and a few pages here and there.
When I finish one book, depending on my schedule for the next few weeks, I think about whether I want a light/fun read, a longer more intense read, etc. I usually take a day to debate (this morning I committed to 11/22/63), and then dig in. If I really hate it in the beginning, I give up and move on.

Re: How do you pick your next book to read?
i usually go to the library and browse through the 'new' books to see if i find something i like. If i read it and like it, i'll go find other books by that same author and read all those (just did that with Greg Isles). I have a friend who reads a lot as well so she's always telling me about good books to try (and i'm hooked up with a few other friends on GoodReads so see suggestions there too).
I keep a running list of books on my phone that i hear about and so if i go to the library and can't find anything, i'll use that list to chose from.

Re: How do you pick your next book to read?
Mostly from Goodreads. I belong to some groups on there of series that I adore (Outlander, Song of Ice and Fire, Bronze Horseman, etc) and each of those groups have "methadone lists," so to speak, of books that people have enjoyed that are not from that series.
I also find the Goodreads recommendations tool to be pretty good. I see what the tool recommends, then read the reviews for that book to see if it would be something I would like.

Some of the books you listed above are my favorites as well!! I'm going to have to start paying attention to what books you are reading for suggestions.

Re: How do you pick your next book to read?
What's new on the booklist, what people in forum's like this are reading/recommending, what's similar to something I just read and loved. Also we have a book sharing library at work and sometimes something in the pile catches my eye.
ETA I answered other because you didn't put an "All of the above".

Re: How do you pick your next book to read?
I usually scroll through my goodreads account and see what's on my to-read list. I always have a few in my head that I want to read more than others. Also, I like to see what I can borrow on my Nook.

I go to the library & pick out whatever looks good to read. It's hit or miss.

Re: How do you pick your next book to read?
Typically based off of recommendations from others. My sister, SIL and best friend are avid readers. So usually they will give me the name of a book to read.
Or I have an account at goodreads.com which gives me recommendations based off past books I've read.

Re: How do you pick your next book to read?
I keep a wish list on amazon.com of the books I want to read... I'll always take recommendations from friends... my office has a book club with an excel sheet of books so I'm slowly working my way through those.. I also keep updated on the posts here... and have found some fantastic suggestions from LIF that I'd never pick up normally.
I share a Kindle account with my SIL and get alot of books to read from what she downloads (things I wouldn't usually go for, but found I really like).
We've over 300+ books in the archives... I"m a bit shocked that I've read all but 33 of them (about to put them all on my Kindle)...and downloading 15 more tonite.. that'll hold me for about two weeks or so! Such a glutton!
