How do you prepare your baby's room for an emergency?
We never know when an earthquake will hit and I am totally unprepared. Luckily DD was in my lap at the time but what if she was taking a nap in her crib on the 2nd floor of our house and I was in the basement and couldn't get to her in time? Is a crib a safe place for a baby/toddler during an earthquake? How do you prepare your childs room in the event of an emergency and you're unable to get to them in time and they have to fend for themselves?

It's impossible to prepare a room for an earthquake, tornado (yes, we do get them on LI), falling tree, lightning strike, drunk driver careening into the house, etc, etc, etc....
I just live my life, and don't stress over things I can't possibly plan for, and have very little chance of happening to me.

The only "emergency" things we have in the bedrooms are smoke/carbon monoxide detectors & fire escape ladders.
There's not much you can do in a young child's room to prepare for emergencies like these.

Ditto..
in all honesty, and I've had emergency readiness preparation and have seen and heard alot and they say that children and infants are better prepared to withstand emergencies than we are.. we are more susceptible to dropping dead from the fright of it while they will be okay..
I cannot live my life in fear.. I just live

Re: How do you prepare your baby's room for an emergency?
Cribs are very safe places for babies/kids for most of these types of natural disasters (except tornadoes...no one is safe). Like PP said, I have nothing on the walls over her crib and usually keep her on the same floor as me in the house. Can't really plan/prepare for everything that MAY happen, KWIM?

We prepared for storms by keeping crib away from windows and near the door. We have fire alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.

Re: How do you prepare your baby's room for an emergency?
I *do* consider a house fire as a possibility, though. Our bedrooms are all on the 2nd floor, so I do have escape ladders in every room, and we do have an evacuation plan, and have practiced it.
