How do you properly dispose of unused cooking oil?

I found an ollllllllllllld expired bottle of olive oil in our cabinets that I need to dispose of. Opened, but still about 99% full.

I'm thinking spilling it down the drain is a bad idea ...

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it?

I would call the town and ask.. Do not put that down your drain..

Definetly don't put it down your drain. I would just wrap the bottle and put it in the garbage.

Just put it in the garbage. If you want to recycle the bottle, out the oil in another container and put it in the garbage.

I guess i'm the wrong person to ask, I was going to say to dump it down the drain

I'd just throw the full bottle away in this case.

you can call your town and see if they recycle cooking oils, but i'd say, dump the oil into a heavy duty ziplop bag and then clean and recycle the bottle.

DON'T place light bulbs, ceramic glass, mirrors, items made of clay, chemical or oil containers, or laminated glass in with your recyclables.

So I'm thinking that means to just throw out the whole bottle (with the oil) in the trash?

I would find a hidden spot in my backyard & pour it in some dirt.

I either throw out the whole thing, bottle and all, or flush the oil and recycle the container.

Question-A couple people recommended flushing the oil. What is the reasoning behind this? I would think that could be bad for the pipes, no?

We were just having the same dilemma yesterday & our town & county didn't have any info. We normally let it cool & throw it in the trash, if it is a small amount, but we had almost a whole bottle of oil left over from deep frying.

We didn't have a large enough non-recyclable container to put it in, so we just threw out the whole thing.
