how do you store your toothbrushes?

I will not leave my toothbrushes on the counter, because I read how when you flush the toilet, it sprays like 6 ft, and goes all over your toothbrushChat Icon (sorry!!!) so I store them in the medicine cabinet, but I feel like that is kinda gross too...any ideas?

I bought a soap dish and put it in the medicine cabinet so our toothbrushes lay horizontally and for the same reasons you wrote! Chat Icon

Re: how do you store your toothbrushes?

You can buy the travel things that just attach to the head of the brush this way you can still keep them in the holder on the sink

Re: how do you store your toothbrushes?

We have a tooth brush holder on an indent cubby shelf that is on the same wall as the toilet. It's pushed in so I think it's safe.

Re: how do you store your toothbrushes?

I store them in a toothbrush holder. On our counter. In the open.

I have heard about the germs spreading through the air too. It doesn't bother me.

If you're concerned - I agree with a PP who suggested the cover that just covers the bristle part.

You could also purchase this... it's a germ-eliminating toothbrush sanitizer.

Re: how do you store your toothbrushes?

We have ours in a toothbrush holder inside of our medicine cabinet. It's in there for two reasons.

1) I really don't like the way toothbrushes look sitting out on the counter... esp. mine that has dried toothpaste all over (gross I know).

2) We have 3 side-by-side medicine cabinets and if we left them out, they would get knocked over each time a medicine cabinet door is opened.

Re: how do you store your toothbrushes?

We have a wall between our toilet and our sink. We have them in a cup out on the sink but we don't leave toothpaste dried on it and I wash the cup they're in every week.

DH keeps his in the shower - I get grossed out about spitting on your feet, so I try not to think about it.

Re: how do you store your toothbrushes?

mythbusters tested this

from their findings, whether you keep the lid open, closed or in another room it still gets "poop" bacteria on it.

this is what i found...

You may want to watch them test this myth.

toothbrush myth - mythbusters

ot at least watch the end of it where they tell you their findings!!!

Fecal coliforms bacteria can grow in toothbrush bristles.

confirmed

Fecal coliforms were indeed found on all the test brushes, including the control ones. However, none were of a level high enough to be dangerous, and experts confirm that such coliforms were impossible to completely avoid.

I must be covered in fecal bacteria too because when I flush the toilet I don't use a 6 foot pole.

Re: how do you store your toothbrushes?

We have an electric toothbrush. You remove the head after each use and put it in the base. When you hit the button, it cleans it for 15 minutes.

Also, when I was living at home, my parents had a suction cup on the inside of the mirror that we all put our toothbrushes in.

I brush in the shower, so it stays on a shelf in my shower. Weird I know but I have always brushed in the shower.
