How do you teach a baby to eat?

DD has never been a good eater. We started her on solids at 6mo, and she hated everything. Finally at 8mo, she began eating yogurt, then other fruits and vegetables - slowly.

Recently, we started introducing table foods, and while she's interested in some----she basically sucks on the food, then spits it out. Never swallows it.
I'm beginning to get a little concerned.
She'll be a year old this month.

How can I teach her to eat? Is there a way?

Thanks.

Can you mix some of the table food in yougurt or applesause. I did this for DS as he started to spit things out. He never spit applesause or yogurt out, so he was able to eat most of the foods after a while I did not need the applesause or yogurt.

Thanks LeShelle!
I actually tried that, but it's something about the texture that bugs her, and she spits it out.

I know she likes the stuff (we've tried puffs, chicken tenders, etc) and she goes back for more....but doesn't seem to know what to do with it.

Just keep introducing it to her..

But, IMO, she is a little young, my ped said no real table food until 11 months and at that point, DS was ready (he had puffs, etc) and never had any issuesChat Icon

Do you show her that you eat it? DS is only 5 months but he seems to like it when I try the new foods first.

Re: How do you teach a baby to eat?

Thanks for your responses!!

I never tried cottage or ricotta cheese.....perhaps I will!!

My ped said that we really need to encourage her to eat, so I've been trying to introduce different things & textures to her.....but maybe I should also be patient and go at her pace.

thanks again! Chat Icon

jenn, have you given her stage 2 or 3 foods yet??? they have more texture and i think she will get the hang of it. I told you the cherios were a no go at my house. LOL.

How about a stage 2 or 3 of macaroni and cheese. I think she would really like that.
