How do you teach your DC not to talk to strangers?
I have noticed that every time we are around people DD(17 mo) tries to get everyone's attention and especially men. She is very friendly and loving . But sometimes I kind of freak out by this and get scared. She is a friendly child and loves being around people- kids and grown ups. I don't want to scold her and make her uncomfortable around people. but I want her to to know that not every man is her father or her uncle and that she can't "talk" to strangers. My DH spends all the time he can with her and I am a SAHM so I honestly can say she is not deprived of her father's(or my) attention. She is also very spoiled bc she is the first baby in the family and always gets all the attention . Am I overreacting ? Is this normal? How do I teach her not to talk to strangers or is she too young for it?

DD is the same way. At this age, I don't make an issue out of it all. She likes attention- what can I say? Its her personality. Some kids like to be the star of the show wherever they go
When she gets older, if the behavior continues, I would have a talk with her. But for now- since she only is ever out with me or DH, I just let it be. She is never in danger and its so young- its just wanting attention.

I think it is important to distinguish between strangers and people that can help. I was watching some type of news program and they said it's best to tell children they can get help from "friendly strangers"- other parents with children at the playground for example.

ITA...Isabella is the same way. OK good, bc I was starting to freak out .everywhere we go she is the only kid or only girl running around and trying to "introduce herself" to grown ups ,lol. I was a nanny in Manhattan for a long time and I never remember any of the kids I took care of being like that. If anything it was the contrary, they were all very shy.
