How do you train dogs not to go on the furniture?

DH and I thought it cute when our puppy would jump on the couch. Now I need to figure out how to break him of that since he brings raw hide on it and is ruining my couch (which is less than a year old). He wants to cuddle w/ us most of the time, but as much as I don't want to discourage cuddles, I think it's a good idea to try to get him to stop.

everytime Murray would jump on the couch , we would just give him a nudge to get him off and say "off' once his feet hit the ground. After a while , he got the hint and doesnt jump on there anymore.

It may also be a good idea to get a little dog bed for the living room, encourage your dog to go there with rawhides, etc
